View Full Version : Pricing
multipleimage 08-21-2001, 03:17 PM I have a potential client who claims someone with us offered him something we cannot offer for the price. He at first claimed he was quoted on WHT but I have checked recent posts and do not see any remotely close from us or anyone else. How would you handle something like this?
you have to think alot about it ,
if you really cant offer it, so dont , but if you promised that u'll give cheapest prices , be aware that he might make a bad name to your company.
Good Luck
multipleimage 08-21-2001, 03:36 PM He wants a P3-1000 with 200 gigs of transfer for $150. He stated that we replied to a WHT post and I cannot find the post. I asked him for the url to the post and he refuses. He stated later in the different conversation that there was no post and reply involved.

For something that drastic, I would tell them that if they can't present this WHT post, there is no deal. There are several threads going on about ficticious dedicated servers (a quad xeon was one) for dirt cheap. Maybe he was referring to one of those?
if you cant give it - so dont ,
its like i'll ask you for dual p3 1ghz
with 1gb ram
500gb transfer
for 99.95$ a month
but i dont remmber the url of the post the you suggest this server in.
sbrad 08-21-2001, 06:02 PM This isn't like an extra email account or something. I would tell him to produce the url or shut up.
Well, ok...I probably wouldn't tell him to shut up if he was MY potential customer, but I don't see why YOU couldn't. :stickout

Nothing is written in stone unless signed or confirmed by the host. Since you're the host, the customer has no right to claim anything.
Dunthank 08-22-2001, 12:26 PM Some potential customers tell us they will be a pain in a favorite part of the anatomy early on - this one sounds like it. I had one just this week cancel after one week with me...why? Because he was frustrated that a feature we enabled especially for him didn't work...then of course I asked him if he'd switched his nameservers to ours, stating that if he hadn't then that was definitely the problem. Haven't heard from him in a couple of days now....
He wasn't worth it. :stickout
I've finally learned that the customers who want the world for next to nothing are NOT worth the headaches and time wasted trying to please them. My business may not grow as fast by not trying to keep problem customers, but if THEY have a "Problem Host" they won't keep them! So I'm better off without them and the bad rap they invariably put out.
Lotsa Luck dealing with this time wasting, headache causing, business rep busting potential customer!

Even with emails, if you send a quote to someone get in the habit of always including either a disclaimer ("Price subject to change without notice") or set a time limit ("This price is good thru 8/22/01).
This way they can't come back to you weeks or months later and try to hold you to an old price.

Good idea. Or maybe just add it to your TOS.
