What is the best place to go for submiting my web site? There are so many. Do they all go about it the same way?

Get yourself listed on dmoz.org and make sure your site is SE optimised. The rest will pick you up from there.

as Matt mentioned "submission" means very little these days, getting your site listed in www.dmoz.org(currently having server issues?! *wack*) will be one of the best ways to get indexed on all the major search engines.

if your site isn't optimised however, it may not rank.. but at least you will get indexed and can "tweak" from there.

other good directories are www.goguides.org www.joeant.com and www.gimpsy.com

also getting your site linked with other related themed sites and your main search keyword phrase in the anchor text will help considerably!
