Holy cow, they finally got a toll free number! That was one of my concerns living it Canada. This just keeps getting better.

If they are like most Americans, they will not get an International Toll Free line. We are in Canada, and got an International Toll Free line (U.S. and Canada) for $6/month....so it's not a big deal.

I just tried their toll free number and it works from Canada!

Finally, a U.S. company that splurged the extra $2 and included Canada in the Toll Free line :)

Make sure that you guys read the fine "6 month minimum contract" print before jumping in.

Greg, just wanted to say that I was a bit ignorant as to toll free #'s and didn't realize I could get an international one. Now, this might sound stupid, but how far does that "international" stretch? Is that just for Canada, or will calls go through from UK, etc. ???

Hi Chicken, I have to say that most Americans are ignorant to most other countries, so your not alone. Most of the huge U.S. companies don't even have a toll free line for Canada, I guess they can't afford the high price of a couple bucks a month :)

I've always thought it was a bit wierd that U.S. citizens call themselves "Americans"...because Canadians and Mexicans are Americans too, everybody that is a citizen in all of North and South America are Americans! But U.S. seems to think that "Americans" only applies to them.

You can get a toll free line from your long distance carrier for a small monthly fee or no montly fee at all (like in my case). I have a toll free line with Sprint that is just connected to my home line but with a different ring so I know it's a business call.

It doesn't cost me any monthly fees but I pay a per minute charge which depends whether the call originates in the US or Canada. As for true "International" toll free lines, I'm not sure. I know it can be done because we have clients at the company I work for that are based in the UK and in Costa Rica and they have toll free lines. You might want to inquire with your local phone company but I have a feeling that these "International" lines are voice over IP because every time I call one I get that delay/echo sound that only voice over ip has. You might want to check some companies on the net that offer services like this.

Let's ponder that for a moment. The Americas (North, Central, and South) were named for Amerigo Vespucci. On the North American continent, we have

Canada
The United States of America
The Republic of Mexico

Many Canadians seem to take pride in the fact that they differ from the U.S. They don't even agree on what language to speak and have the French speaking separatists. I have yet to come across a Canadian who indentifies themselves as "American". The same is true of Mexicans, and citizens of all the South American countries.

Many people identify themselves by their country rather than continent. You can find similar examples for all the countries in Africa.

Is it weird that U.S. citizens call themselves Americans when they live in the only country whose name contains the word America?

The U.S. name contains the word America the exact same as Canada! Let's look at that:


U.S.A. = United States of America

That's the same as Canada, we are the Canada of America, the same as Mexico of America, we just are smart enough to know that we are part of America so we don't need to say it with our name like U.S. people do.

Yeah, right Greg. You forgot that Canada not only includes the word America in it, but BS as well (or is it MS)? (moose droppings), or your statement does.

I think you must be right, since no matter how much I begged and pleaded, they wouldn't give me a 1-800#. I totally didn't believe them, and I was really annoyed, but what can I do. Some aren't willing to do much searching for you either.

Like the 877 I got then spells out a word. Seems that is the only bloody word I could get spelled out, tried a whole bunch of combinations and that was the only one that worked.

Who owns 1-800-CHICKEN ? Yeah, I know I'll never get it, but 800, 888, 877 are all taken but do not resolve. It is as bad a *bleepin'* domain names. Is there a way to search avalable numbers on the net? And get them? Hmmm.

You may want to check out DH.com, their service is good and their is no issues dealing with bandwidth. Also, the allow month-to-month contracts.

I is too bad that people feel the need to bash the US. I don't feel Canada is that bad, though Mexico is a pot hole. I am from Western NY about 1 hour from the US-Can border. Most Canadiens I meet are nice, well that is until I hit anything North of Toronto! But just as in the US some Canadiens are, how should I say it, poop-heads! No Is the United States of America better the Canada of America? I don't really think it matters, neither country would let anything happen to the other as far as foriegn aggressions goes. National identity is nice, national price is great, but Canada your brother to the south, the US of A not Mexico of America, we love you! :-)

Now lets all get back to work!

Just going back to toll free numbers and Canada for a second. What are the rates you pay (inbound from Canada to the UNited States)??? I got some quotes and it seems that although inbound from any U.S. City is around 5.5 cents, inbound from Canada would be over 25 cents/min. Maybe this is why no one wants to offer this. That isn't all that cheap, *and* I am. :)
