View Full Version : site accessability

Maybe someone has a thought on this, it keeps coming up for me.

I use 7 different reseller accounts with 4 different hosting companies. Once or twice a week, I have a customer that says his site is down, and his customers are calling to tell him ( so its not just him) although I have the site as up, and Alertra has the site as up also.
This goes on and on with every one of my server accounts ( except my McHost account, starngely enough) .
I even have a situation myself where every afternoon I cannot access a particular site or its cpanel, yet the customer sees tha site and he's only 5 miles from here!

Why does this happen? I just need to understand it so I can tell the customer something rational. Is it just the ISP? Or a carrier prob? What?
Is there anything I can do at my end?

Thanks in advance

Just a shot in the dark here but I would have a look at the DNS on all these boxes.

Just curious if your using shared DNS. Do you know? Can you give me an example of one of the domains that has problems?

here are my two most troublesome: tripletproducts.com

floridaphoneservice.com

both of these go on and off all the time, but server is always up. these are on two different reseller accounts, two different boxes, two different DCS

The next time this happens, rip on over to Alertra.com and use their Spotcheck box in the top right corner. This will check the availability of your domain from multiple locations.

I do that, and it shows positive in other locations, its like the customers are making this up, but I now they are not. I really thought that i would have one of you guys give me an easy answer for this, like it happens all the time.
So no one out there experiences this on a regular basis, where the customer cant see the site but you and most everyone else can?

Hi :)

If you visit www.dnsreport.com you can learn a lot about how your set up performs and if there are any errors than can or should be corrected.

For instance, a check at dnsreport on the two domains you listed show that neither have reverse dns/ptr set up - this can slow down connections and cause problems with emails. Also, the second domain has a problem with its listed nameservers.

Hope that helps you out :)
