Hey all, I'm looking to change my site (http://www.hecticmedia.com) to work like http://www.fark.com and http://www.bbgossip.com

I am not good enough by far to program a script like that and all my friends who can are busy. Wondering if anybody had seen an open-source version of it or whether anybody would be up for coding it, with a credit of course.

Sure did, but it's like a needle in a haystack, I mean what category would you put it under...i guessed news, but all they have their is stuff like newspro...

Thanks Matt, again on that site I can't find any which are like bbgossip or fark, which is a shame..guess I'll have to settle for a new comment system.

The idea i want is that anyone can sign up. When they have a news article, they can post it.

For people to post on these scripts, I have to create them accounts, rather than me just approving accounts that they have made.

I like your site much more than the other two generic sites you mention. Is it just an issue of updating backend? or do you really like the other's looks?

The problem with my site is that the users are going up (which is good) but no one is reviewing. The reason for this is, to review a band you have to click artists, find the band, click on their name, click on albums, find the cd and then review.

It's such a hassle for people to review, so no one's doing it and that's the main point of the site.

With the other 2 sites, all people do is login and post a news story, then others just login and comment, it's so much easier for the user.

I don't know what to do..:confused: Plus, since at the moment it's only me working on the site, keeping up with every band's discography is majorly time consuming and nearly impossible..

Looks like what you need is a news posting script.

Maybe even a lightweight blog (yes I know, I say that often). My site uses a blog...I write the articles, people comment on them, simple effective. Right now its undergoing a remake.

Try searching for news posting scripts.

Thanks, what i want is a box with the latest review in it...then under 5 latest news stories...i hope i can find one :)
