Hmmm, best way to learn, I've found is trial and error. Find a template you like and then try to reproduce it (with some of your own artistic flair). View the source code of the template to see how the designer accomplishes different things. You're not trying to rip them off here, you're trying to learn most of all.

The other alternative would be to invest in some of the better known graphics / web design programs. Personally, I like Photoshop and Dreamweaver. If you are a student, you can usually get VERY deep discounts on these programs.

Also check out any resources your school might have for you. My nephew was interested in becoming a graphic artist and his high school hooked him up with an intern position at a design studio. They have paid to train him on all the latest and greatest software. Now he's in his last year of college and he still works there. He received great training and made a few bucks and has a great experience item for his resume.

Just some random thoughts... Good Luck! ;)

Well please remember that being good is not determined by the tools you use. It is determined by your eye for design, and the mount of time you are willing to put into it, to learn the craft.

If you don't have much money, I suggest going for the lower cost alternatives:

- PaintShop Pro: http://www.jasc.com (instead of PhotoShop)
- SwishMax: http://www.swishzone.com (instead of FlashMX)
- WebExpress: http://www.mvd.com/webexpress/index.htm (instead of DreamWeaver)
- CrimsonEditor: http://www.crimsoneditor.com/ (instead of Notepad)

Note: Notepad is free anyway, and comes with Windows. However, crimson editor (also free) has many more functions, and is quite easy to use as well.

Well, another suggestion....

1. You should never admit on a massive public forum that you plan to STEAL software.

2. If you plan for anyone here at all to take you seriously, you may want to take advice and suggestion a little more gracefully.

3. This type of attitude toward design is why the internet is plagued with sites like: http://www.bestwebdesignonline.com

4. Some of us DESIGNERS are pretty irritated with people that steal software, because those of us that pay for it, must pay more, to compensate for what you stole. Why do you think software like FlashMX costs so much in the first place?

What part of the world do you live on Invalid?

Although I realize it is my local time, your post says you posted at 8:48PM EST. So, I'm trying to figure out which part of the world you must live on that the time difference would make it 3:30AM or later.

The immaturity of Invalid and others like him gives us 14-year-olds a bad rap.

I was bored so I took a stroll through the site and a few of the associated links....The guy actually has another site called 'The Internet Pros.com'. Claims to have been involved with the Internet since 1991, and suggests that you put his "20 years of internet experience to work for you". Let's see.....2003 minus 1991 equals.....Twelve? Is my math wrong?

The amazing thing is, he has paying customers. Family members?

lol I pointed that out to the guy. heh (he's lives about 5 miles from me)

Ironically, some of his clients, also paid him A LOT of cash.

I just don't know how someone could look at his site, then his work, compare it to his prices, and then think "Hmmmm this is a very good idea."

CactusCounty

Saw that. He does have some outrageous rates, especially considering the quality of service he offers. Makes me think that perhaps I need to re-evaluate my own.

Nah.

A three page website with 50 megs of disc space? A five page site with 100? If any of his clients came anywhere near to utilizing that much space in that few pages no one would wait for them to load. The thought put into his "plans" is non-existant apparently.

I like the computer training, $45 per hour, to be fair it doesn't look like they could teach much!

$45! < i'm from the UK i am right in thinking that's outrageous aren't I?

Just noticed to add to that i just noticed that he charges a set-up fee, each year for leasing websites! I thought a set up fee was for set up ;)

Well here's the sad part.....that guy actually swiped 3 clients from us. I was boggled to say the least.

That boggles me too.

he's got a very...."windows 95" touch ;).

Oh, and it's ironic that his slogan is:

"Web design so good...it's scary!"

Very scary...

Also noticed some of these disclaimers at the bottom of the pages:

<company name> Nor the web design company cannot be held responsible for any typographical errors.

There's typographical errors in that sentence alone!

ANMMark

I wonder who WOULD be responsible for typos, since he's the one typing them lol
