Okay, I've been wanting to install mod_throttle and autosetup on my RaQ4i that I recently got from RackShack.net. However there are missing files that won't let it install. Almost all of the files in /usr/lib/xxxx are missing. I've talked to the boys at RackShack and they say that they won't help because they gave me the RaQ exactly how they got it from Cobalt. Any ideas on what I can do to get these files? Has anyone else had problems like this before?
This is not uncommon -- I am not sure why, but the Cobalt Linux has libs either in odd places or not installed at all. I think they simply clone their machines, thus many of the libs have been removed.
To get around this issue, you must install your own libs. This is not too difficult if you have some basic knowledge of how to compile and install programs under linux.
A note about rpms and pkgs...
Many rpms and pkgs do not install the appropriate libs you need to install other programs. You often must also install the rpm for the libs, sometimes called the devel pkg. I find it is usually faster and more reliable to simply install the tarballs and avoid the rpms. Over time you will build up your lib directory and will reduce the number of problems in the future.
lib help
If you are unsure what libs are missing, pay careful attention to the installation. Post the error messages from the make or configure here if you need additional help.
Search for the libs
you can use the locate command to see if the libs are on your machine but just in a place that the config script is not looking. You may have to specifcy these paths in your configure script or cp the libs to the /usr/lib directory.

Well the problem is I don't really know what I'm doing. I don't even know how to install mod_throttle and autosetup. I'm having someone else install those for me and that is who informed of the missing files. We've tried to RackShack on several occasions and have gotten nowhere. So I'll have him take a look at this post and see if he can do it. Otherwise, I don't know what to do. But thank you very much.

I know these guys do private consulting and software installation:
Jens Kristian Søgaard, Mermaid Consulting I/S,
jens@mermaidconsulting.dk,
http://www.mermaidconsulting.com
Might be a handy URL to keep around, and I'm not just making up for accidentally warez'ing the script in the other thread (oops!), this is my suggestion of who you should contact.

Yeah thanks Chicken...they have contacted me. I'm just not sure I want to pay that kind of money just for a little script like that. I don't know if it's worth it. But thanks!

Well, I also perform RaQ installations (PHP, mySQL, SSH, etc). <<EDIT>>
Maybe a new section at Webhostingtalk (Cobalt RaQ) should be started where those of us that offer these services, can be listed?

Sorry, saying that you do it is as much as I'll allow this time. Please don't mention it again, we'll make a mental note. No talk of pricing.
As for a new section... You've got it, 'Other Related...' - that's it. While I'll never say never, we have 4 advertising forums already, that's plenty and I highly doubt any more will be added. You may wish to contact Matt about sponsoring the Cobalt forum, though I don't know if he's offering specific forum sponsorships at this time.
