I have a question about NOCs.

If you are a fairly big host, usually, the odds are, that you either co-locate your servers somewhere, or you have all yoru servers in house, at a local NOC.
edit. What i mean by 'In-House' was 'On-Location'. Instead of across the Country

How does one get to host all its servesr at its very own NOC?

How can you find where there is a local NOC?
How do you search for somethign like this, and enquire
about getting your servers put there.

I assume its very expensive? Is it worth it?

Gracias

Having physical access to your servers is always a good thing (TM).

Acually there are a few places to search for nocs near you. Mainly they are in big cities, others are not.

Now do not just look at the ones those give you. I used one service, I cant remember the address or name, but I asked for my area including chicago and they gave me 1 responce. It missed a lot and did not even have the big ones. So look around. As for a noc in your house there was a nice long post about this. Its possible but more or less not recomended. A host gets its own noc when they have the money to pay for lines, hardware, and space. More or less it would cost a arm and a leg. I personally recomend Verio and they are in a few major cities.

i knew that though

i was just wondering how a company goes about getting its own NOC.
OR do they usually share a reputable companies? Like AT&T or Verizon, and leech off theirs?

I dont know how this works, id love to hear from all of you.

Having physical access is very good. I go at least once a week. Ok Ill admit it, I just really like doing that finger print scan thinggy, even though it takes me like 5 tries to get it right.

Most webhosts on WHT don't have their own NOCs (data centers). The ones that do usually colo with local data centers that they've arranged some type of deal with. Starting you own (good) data center is probably at least a million dollar investment.

Ok.

So basically, what one does.

Find a company with their own DataCenter in the area.
Ask them to co-locate all servers there, and to have access to their servers, so that we can work on them, and manage them?

Is this very expensive?
I know most of you all do it, help a buddy out!

Dpends on the Noc, how many servers you need, and how much bandwidth you need.
