as seen in this thread (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=187573) it seems that he.net just turned on their first direct international connection(oc48) to london,UK. do u guys think it will result in a better connectivity from he to europe? and they r selling the bandwidth really cheap now. is it a potentially bad thing?
as that post suggest they will now peer with the LINX - which is a great exchange, I can only see this new pop as a turn for the better.
and if they are selling bandwidth really cheap it probably means they got lots of excess bandwidth :)

umm so is it just another "peer"? or is it a physical fibre connection(oc48)? i dont quite understand the difference...

they will have bought stm transit and then be peering part of that to linx. Of course it is a physical connection to get over the 4500 mile ocean:) then when it gets to good old 'engerland' theres a connection to linx, then a connection to the linx routers, two or more ports then they have selected companies which are linx members they connect to.
I assume they have a node in london connected to their NY/VA node thru a leased OC48, they dont own the physical fibre.
its might be alot cheaper leasing the OC48 and peering with alot of EU providors thru the LINX, compared to paying for transit in america..

This depends very much on your own local ISP. If above.net is the better route as determined by BGP4, it will probably still continue going through above.net, unless He also starts peering with Above.Net at the Linx.

HE.net recently leased several long haul OC-48s (waves) to replaced older inadequate circuits.
HE is currently offering $20 a meg on Gigabit commits.
The only problem I see with selling so cheaply is their possible inability to get adaquate peering from the major carriers.
HE currently relies on MFN and Wiltel for transit to carriers that refuse to peer with them on a settlement free basis.

I was given the following IP as their router over in Redbus:
216.218.200.102
And i was also told that the LINX connection is not online yet.
