Hi all,

I get the following error message regularly:

The PostgreSQL server is down and cannot be restarted.

A reboot via telnet doesnt fix it. Could someone please give me an idea on how to restart it.

Im a novice to LINUX so keep it simple please :)

have you tried looking at http://www.postgresql.org/idocs/index.php?postmaster-start.html

Hmm I had this problem once,
control panel is giving errors, correct?

I had that same problem! Be careful...


My postgres database was not working when one of my automated scripts tried to add a users and you know what it did? It went through the httpd.conf file and wiped all my current virtualhosts.

I could not use the control panel because of this problem and after i rebooted it didnot come back. I have just restored my server and lost all data.
