View Full Version : The Best *Inexpensive* ICANN-accredited Domain Registrar?
steve23 09-15-2003, 11:28 PM Hi forum,
Who did you use for your domain registration?
I am deeply concerned about some of the bad business practice stories on this forum (namecheap, godaddy etc.) and just need a solid referal from people with no business to hype and who, therefore have clear integrity n the matter.
Can you recomend a good inexpensive ICANN-accredited registrar for just one domain name (in just the three: .com, .net and .org forms) -- ie: not a 'bulk' registration?
Thanks!
steve
Stable 09-15-2003, 11:41 PM Bottom line is that doing business will bring about both good and bad experiences. So while I may have nothing but good things to say about godaddy someone else may have had a bad experience. Same will go for the others - register.com, enom.com, NSI, etc...
If you are looking for a good registrar then you should consider Godaddy, I have all of my domains with them and have been very pleased with the service. No obviously someone else is going to post how Godaddy has screwed them and you should never use them. The decision should deffinatly come down to either Enom or Godaddy and Godaddy gets my nod.
LP-Trel 09-15-2003, 11:56 PM I have a domain at just about every registrar thats under 12 dollars a year.
RegisterFly, Namecheap, Enom, Godaddy, Rackshack, etc..
My experience is, Rackshack is the best because of price and I like how simple their interface is. Godaddy's interface is so complex its hard sometimes.
I recommend Rackshack.net but, thats just me. :D
I recommend GKG. Good price good support :)
steve23 09-16-2003, 02:49 AM Hi all,
Thanks for the replies. :)
I went to the offiial list of ICANN accredited registrars at:
http://www.internic.net/alpha.html
and the only registrar mentioned other than godaddy and enom was GKG.net.
Rackshack.net sounds really good -- especially for price. But are they ICANN backed?
I want ICANN 'consumer guard dog' protection. ;)
Thanks for whatever additional help you can provide.

Bashar 09-16-2003, 03:17 AM *********** the cheapest with live support and an ICANN accredited registrar
Bashar 09-16-2003, 03:18 AM well seems its banned hehe :)

stingerweb 09-16-2003, 03:33 AM even internet.com is inexpensive ;)

Domain names registered with RackShack.net are "managable" via OpenSRS/Tucows' generic user interface at https://manage.opensrs.net/
By the way Tucows/OpenSRS is an ICANN-accredited registrar which ONLY sells domain names via its resellers, and they are the largest growing registrar among all.
mastahoster 09-17-2003, 07:19 PM hostway.com for $6.95
mastahoster 09-17-2003, 07:19 PM at hostway.com for $6.95
Jeffreyw 09-17-2003, 08:08 PM You beat me to it mastahoster...
I know were looking for cheapest here, but who has the best customer support regardless of price that you guys have found?

Godaddy used to have best customer support...

It is correct that Tucows is the largest registrar that is increasing its total number of domains, but barely. While they are 2nd in the number of total domains, they are only 19th in terms of growth (1Q '03).
Godaddy is the fastest growing registrar and 4th in total registrations.
The key is to look at the features that each registrar provides and not have some arbitrary "cut-off" price to stop looking at. There are a number of people that would now gladly have spent a few dollars more to find a better registrar to eliminate the problems that they now have. Realize that the registration fee is probably the cheapest part of a domain, when you consider Internet access fees, hosting fees, etc.
I'm not saying that spending $35 a year will be your salvation, but unless you have a significant number of domains, a five or ten dollar a YEAR difference in domain pricing can be trivial compared to potential problems.
But, if you want to have the greatest "safety" I would advise starting with an ICANN registrar (on the list). Then you have only ONE company to deal with, although there are many good resellers out there (but several bad ones as well).
When you get more familar with what to do, how to make changes, then you can begin to experiment with other registrars, but I never encourage anyone experimenting with their "critical" or valuable domains. (Buy a different TLD for your domain if you want to experiment with a new registrar -- trust me, it is a great investment and saves sleepless nights if you pick the wrong registrar.) There are many inexpensive domains that can be purchased (some for less than $5) that you could transfer if you wanted to practice.
Gary111 09-18-2003, 04:16 AM as far as support is concerned, I would suggest Enom, their registration and transfer systems are very professional and user-friendly.
But as a whole, I would prefer OnlineNIC, their prices are unbeatable, and their customer support is very fast in response and polite in wording, I generally find them quite helpful.
