I havn't heard much about Web Hosting Network (www.www-hosting.net) and Hostiva (www.hostiva.com) Are they legit and good companies? How is their tech support and reliability/uptime of servers? What is their general reputation? I need a site that will take PO's or checks, I tried looking on their sites but couldn't find that info. Thanks

We have dealt with www-hosting a few times and yes they are a legit company. You shouldnt have any problems going with them.

Brendan, looks like they have th esame hosting plans (or very similar) to you, are they one of your resellers?

Actually we are not resellers of anyone, we own all our servers and house them in various NOC's on the west coast

We have in fact worked with Brenden a few times and we have helped each other out in quite a few ways

I used to have accounts with hostiva.com and for some reason cancelled them. What I can say about it is that Mr. David Goldman, the person who runs the web site, is a good guy and does honest business there.

My questions allways got timely reply, and when I asked a refund in about 20 days he refunded the fees instantly without any question asked.

If you are looking for cheap Unix plans to resell, hostiva.com offers some choices.

The only potential problem I could see for you at hostiva is that they only do online checks, so if you need to do a paper check you'll be out of luck. From their FAQ:

What forms of payment do you accept?
We try to bring lowest possible prices and best possible service to our customers, and thus need to minimize our general administrative costs. Accepting any forms of payment not provided for by our payment gateway (including paper checks, money orders, money transfers, PayPal, etc.) would significantly increase those costs by making logistics of bookkeeping, taxes, account renewals and refunds more complicated. Therefore, we can only accept forms of payment provided by our payment gateway, which are credit cards and online checks.

I paid with credit card instead of online check, and the third party merchant service, PaySystems.com, that hostvia.com uses sent me refund in thirty minutes after I had sent my cancellation.

Thank you everyone for your help! I sent AlaskanWolf a PM to see if he could help me get setup and answer a few questions I have. I also came across www.aletiahosting.com which has plans similar to ones I have been looking at. I'll have to sort through these three and see which one would work out better. The control panels seem really nice on aletiahosting and hostiva but I couldn't view the one on www-hosting.net . I'm not looking to resell any space, because I'm setting up a webpage and email for my church. This is why I'd have to pay with a PO, or some sort of check because they dont have a credit card to use. Thanks again for your help!

www-hosting isnt a reseller no, but they do realize the benefits of working with other hosts instead of against them to improve services all around which is a great asset for both them and their customers. You definatly wont have any problems if you go with them above and beyond small tech. probs that occur with every host. From what ive seen their tech support is fast as well.

Web Hosting Network (http://www.www-hosting.net) looks like a pretty solid company. The special they have running on their Power plan really caught my eye. Hostiva was also one I was really considering, but I always try to keep away from the very lowest priced company.

I also came across www.aphosting.com but thing I'll skip them because they're too new of a company. It's too early, in my opinion, to tell how reliable there servers, tech support, etc. are.

If the price is the lowest, so is your risk. Why not give them a try if they offer you certain day money back guarantee.

High price doesn't necessarily mean better service.

True, but I've made that mistake before. A lot of times you can't tell within the first 30 days how bad a service will be. This also isn't a person website so I can't be moving it to different servers every month or two. I want to pick a solid company from the start that I'll be staying with years from now. Last year I was looking for space for a personal site and found this great 3GB account for only $20 a month. It had all these great features and more than I ever needed. Of course, this site happened to be ***** and I had the worst service ever! I couldn't tell my site would go down all the time within the first 30 days or that my email would work half the time. I'd rather pick a company that isn't the cheapest and is very reliable.

I wouldn't vouch for www-hosting.net 1 year ago, I cancelled my account within 1 week and they only refunded me 86 days later.

I sent mails to enquire about my refund (prepaid 1 year with setup fees) 30days after cancelling account. They replied to me that a refund will be made.

Empty promises. I even sent my card number to them 2 times. I bet they did not file them properly...

So that's it, setup fees gone (which they waived it on hosting plans soon after I applied for my account) and first month of hosting. I was only there for 1 week and they deducted so much :bawling:

I know it was stated that they will be deducted from the refund but its so unfair. Especially the refund only reached me 86 days later, ie. around 3 months later... at least it reached me in the end...

No, this is not a latin quiz. How about Hostiva vs. Aletia? How do the two compare? While Hostiva looks more affordable, Aletia looks to have more experience. Any thoughts or experiences with both?

Well, I've been with Hostiva for a week and 1/2....
I came from Worldzonepro, and have been nothing but happy with Hostiva so far.
They seem to be very professional (know what they are doing).
They have an excellent control panel.
They respond to emails, so far, within a day or few hours even.

They're new, and they are at new servers, because of bugs at the previous servers.
They were down for a bit sometime in the last couple of days, but I believe it was due to someone running a MYSQL script that looped until MYSQL crashed.
So, I think it was because of trying to fix that.

Anyway, the cheapest and most professional host I've seen so far in a long time..... :)
