View Full Version : David Blaine
Domain-Chat 09-14-2003, 09:41 PM As David began his 44 days of confinement last Friday, he asked for a special pre-recorded message to be played. This is what he said:
"No matter how many obstacles I've prepared for there are so many unknowns. Maybe the case will be swaying in the wind. Will the sun burn through the glass making the temperature intolerable? Will the cold nights penetrate the thin walls around me? Will the air supply get cut off and cause suffocation and maybe even death? I don't know. Anything can go wrong and I will have no way of knowing until it is already too late. I can only hope for the best and expect the worst."

etogre 09-14-2003, 09:54 PM lol, I could do what he did.
Artashes 09-14-2003, 11:51 PM Love this Blaine guy. (In a straight way.)
ian27 09-15-2003, 10:34 AM he is a lunatic as far as i am concerned, and what is the purpose of this new stunt that he is doing other than getting the publics attention and and the end he will be probrably get paid millions for doing it, he should have be doing something worthwhile for charity or something it's pathetic if you ask me.
mrl14 09-15-2003, 11:27 AM The guy can levitate (sp?) :p

no he cant he's a nob, although i think his tricks are quite good he's a bit pretentious and loves himself doesnt he:)
still he will be a bit on the thin side when he comes out and might fall down the crack in the pavement that'l be a good trick:)
Tazzman 09-15-2003, 11:33 AM We'll see how well he can levitate if the cable snaps :dgrin:
I'm just totally unintrested in his antics. What's the point in dangling above a river for a month and a half in a little box?
liam_tmt7 09-15-2003, 11:34 AM tough ****, looks like he isnt as good as he thinks he is
he's only human afterall
Liam
mrl14 09-15-2003, 11:35 AM I just watched a show on him last night. It appears after he lifts himself about 1-2 ft off the ground he just flops to the ground, LOL.
richy 09-15-2003, 11:44 AM there was a guy on tv a few weeks back showed how blaine did all his tricks. Its stupid to think he can actually levitate its just a trick. the levitation was something to do with lifting on one foot or something and people dont notice.
mrl14 09-15-2003, 11:47 AM Regardless, he's very good at what he does. Why ruin it, he provides some nice entertainment, and that can be hard to find sometimes :D
richy 09-15-2003, 11:49 AM the best entertainment hes provides is as the butt of some pretty funny pranks.
ciqala 09-15-2003, 11:52 AM the levitate trick was shown on t.v. on one of those 'magic secrets revealed' type shows.
basically he positions himself at an angle to the people and then raises up on the front of one foot so those behind him see his heels rise but cant see the front of his foot which is furthest from them (because of the angle). so he 'levitates' about 5 inches from the floor and then the crack-addicts/drunks/bums/hippies(or any other person who is likely to give an overblown reaction for the camera) react to him raising 5 inches off the floor. then they go back to the same spot later on with extras dressed in the same clothes as the 'strangers on the street' and they film from behind them and he is lifted off the ground by a wire to get the footage of him levitating over a foot off the ground (to make the illusion look more impossible) then its all cut together for tv where they lie and say no camera trickery is used like you have to believe it cos they say its true.

mrl14 09-15-2003, 12:25 PM ahh you just ruined the fun :p
But like I said...its Entertainment. If he can entertain one person, i'm sure he's happy.

THANKYOU SO MUCH FOR POSTING THIS! I really hope people will now realise he's just in it for the publicity...
I think that the other tasks he did were better than this box trick because this is on-going and borrrrrrrrrring. We need more flying burgers ;)...Anyone live in London? :fork:
binaris 09-15-2003, 01:21 PM http://community.channel4.com/6/ubb.x?a=tpc&s=162603557&f=118604722&m=304601842
He's a scam artist. ;)
Anyone live in London?
Yes, and no i will not go and throw things at him. :)
Tazzman 09-15-2003, 02:17 PM Yes, and no i will not go and throw things at him. I don't blame you. It's a waste of a perfectly good burger and you'd probably just end up with a fine for littering :)
binaris 09-15-2003, 02:27 PM Secondly, i read that he chucked down a ****ty nappy yesterday in front of crowds. Pardon me for saying this, but even prior to his stunt, he said he had been starving for 6 days, and then add that only a week, and he is still doing number twos???!!!
He must be eating. He is not a magician, just a clever con artist.
David should be fined, as well. :D

awwww go on you know you want to :)
i'll paypal a couple of quid for a cheese burger, then you can ball it up and wang it at the box it should stick then :)
Beauzeau 09-15-2003, 03:38 PM David's a con guy. His stuff was neat when he first started, but as soon as the other magicians started talking about what he was doing, it was clear that most of his stunts were worked out ahead of time and those who were there were all involved. You ever heard the phrase "done with cameras"? That's his thing. He can float using the balducci method (standing on toes on one foot) and it's effective if you're standing in the right spot behind him. But when they show the camera shot of him levitating from behind, they've put other people in the shot and are using a crane lift. Nothing that blaine does requires ANY level of skill as a magician. All of his close-up stuff is done with gaffed materials that requires no sleight of hand skill at all, and you could do them too if you simply buy the tricks from a magic shop. Sure alot of them look cool (on camera AND in person), but they're just tricks, and anyone can do them by buying them. Bite a quarter in half? Sure! That will be 17.95 please.... Cig thru a quarter? Ok, that one's ten bucks....

Beauzeau 09-15-2003, 03:46 PM Wanna see a good magician? Go check out someone like Bill Tarr. You might have seen this guy doing incredible things with cigarettes and coins and cards over the years. Or go see a good mentalist do their show. Most real "street magicians" are nothing like Blaine. Most of them have much more appeal and mystique than Blaine does and many of them have honed their sleighting skills to the point that they don't need gaffs to do their act (or they are smart enough to develop their own gaffs).
