Hello,

I have bought a 6.95 enom account.

How do I calculate my reseller prices ?

How do you go from 6.95 to 8.95 ?
(Don't say to me add 2$ :D )

Thanks for the info.

Steven

Yeah.. just add $2.. because you can't make accounts under $8.95 but you could make a $8.14 retail account.

Hi,

I am selling at $8.75. Actually I can't make any profit out from selling domains. Here's the costing:

Selling Price: $8.75

2CheckOut Credit Card Charge ($0.45 + 5.5%) : 0.93
eNom Price: $6.95
--------------------------------------------------------------
Costing of a Domain: $7.88

Profit (exclude all expenses): $8.75 - $7.88 =$0.87

I don't think the $0.87 can cover the support fee, Internet connection fee, website maintenance fee and overhead.

However all companies in our area selling domains between $8.00 - $9.00, I have to sell at such price!

Best regards

Hi,

OH.. Yes...Thanks BeNe.WS. I forgot to mention the 3% that Enom charches you when you refill your account ? This only left $0.60 for the "profit"!

My area is Hong Kong.

Hi ex5316

Don't forget your exchange difference too if you fund it using your credit account. It can cost up to 1.5% ie. HK$7.80 : US$1 can actually result in HK$7.92 to US$1.00.

Oh! I will think that it is for interest only!

I am from Hong Kong too.

PrimeDNR,

Yeah! This is true. People outside the USD zone will also suffer a lose in exchange rate, about 1.5%.

Finally, the "profit" of selling a domain will come to about $0.45
Can the $0.45 can cover the Website Maintenance fee, Internet Connectivity fee, Support fee and overhead?

In other words, selling domain below $10.00 will lose money.

Good luck!

Hi ex5316

You are right!

Thanks for advise. My business is so so.

Breakeven is quite difficult. I have to inject money to my business too.

Support fee cannot be covered ... because some times customers are complaining about the service of the registrar. Say recently I have few customers complaining the email forwarding service of enom.com. They threat to leave me.

But it is not my fraud. I just cannot request enom.com to forward promptly because enom.com say they forward server has been blocked.

selling domain below $10.00 will lose money

How can you sell so low? at 8.75
Did you get a lot of sign up?

I got a few per month.

PrimeDNR,

Why the price so low? I am also a victim of price competition. I remember that I sold domains at USD15.00 (HK$120.00) in Year 1999 which was almost the lowest price in Hong Kong by that time!

I do have amazing number of domains sign up. I use Joker.com, GoDaddy.com, onlineNIC and eNom. I purchased 1000 domains from eNom in Dec 2002, hoping to transfer the domains from other registrars to eNom. This is very tired to manage domains from a number of registrars. However, most clients are not willing to pay the domain renewal fee earlier so that the transfer time is not enough. Moreover, the registrars are sometimes reject your transfer for the first time - transfer time is not enough for the second trial. Therefore I still keeping many domains in other registrars other than eNom.

By the way... only a few per months. How much you sell? When can you sell all your 1000 domains.

Best regards

Hi ex5316

Sorry for late reply!

Write an email to me at registerport@yahoo.com.hk. May be we can be a friends.

I sold at 14.95 , then 14.00 then 12.88 then, 10.99 currently.

Please feel free to email me.

$120 in 1999 I cannot believe it.....

1999, it should cost at least 35 per domain unless you get it from Godaddy's.

It is cut throat competition... thanks to the trade of eNom.com 6.95 account.

Hi,

I remember that I got my first domain in Year 1997 from Network Solution. This is USD70.00 per two years. I was very excited that when I received two pages beautiful color printed "Domain Certificate" from Network Solution. A domain was a premium identity on the Internet then.

Then I got the domains from Joker.com in Year 1999 - Year 2001. Joker.com may probably offer the cheapest domains reseller during this period. The reselling price of .com .net .org from Joker.com in this period was about USD8.50. It seems that Joker.com still maintain this price now.

GoDaddy promote actively in Year 2001 (correct me if I am wrong) and become a famous registrar in a very short time. Then I started to use GoDaddy until Dec 2002 when I purchased 1000 domains from eNom.

Best regards

Hi ex5316

I think I know your website. If I am not enjoy to be a reseller, I shall have been your client.

Firstly I found your website in 2002 reselling joker.com's domain. I think you are the only one to do so in Hong Kong. Your domain name is mygreatn***.com I think.

At the that I was very interested become a reseller, finally I found enom.

My price is higher than yours because I am a part time with full heart. I enjoy servicing people with their domain.

Congradulations to you. you are now listing by Yahoo! Hong Kong. I get most of the customers from Yahoo!.

About 90% but of course my client is now still very few. around 50 only.

I try to resell webhosting but failed because the reseller package don't allow me to oversell bandwidth.

I close the website finally. It is still and timway listed website.

Feel free to email me, your experience is a great lesson to me. I join domain in July 2002. I start purchase domain in 2001 , the first one is bought from DirectNIC.com for my friends company.

Have you tried DRAMSYSTEM, it is not bad. But as I am not a programmer I cannot modified it. It helps you to offer real time registration.

Yes. Customers don't want to renew earlier. I think 20% of them will drop the domain after first year. Some of them even start their own domain reselling business! They think it is profitable. But the actual answer is depend on whether you have got client.
Correct me if I am wrong.
I think starting from late 2000, Godady's promote very completively, but first it offer domain only services. You have to use mydoman.com's services to forwarding... Later on to fight enom.com's 6.95 account, Bob add more features to it.

In my opinion, the interface of Gaddady is very difficult to use. It updates is slow especially if you change the contact details.

Thanks for sharing!

Best wishes

PrimeDNR,

You are right. We are probably one of the first website in Hong Kong to provide cheap domains service. We sell most of our domains and hosting plans in our local area by "words of mouth". We are advertising our business in some famous paid search engines in the US. In fact our customers come from every corner of the globe.

Yes, we just listed in the Yahoo Hong Kong a week ago, hoping to serve more clients in our local area.

Please go on with your domain and hosting business. Never give up. Your dream must come true one day.

Good luck!

P.S. I NEVER have any intention to promote my business in any forums. I just wish to share experience with others.

Hi ex5316

Thanks for sharing.

May be my price is too high. No signup for this 2 weeks. I agree competition is very keen here,

Everyone start their domain business. but the market is small in Hong Kong I think.

Did you have any suggestion for a webhosting reseller packages..

Best wishes.

PrimeDNR,

Yes, the competition is very keen and fierce here. Darwin's theory apply best to our local market - "Struggle for Survival". You have to think how to evolve your business every day to adapt the ever changing world. Always review your 8P marketing stragedy studied in University.

I just sent you an email. It seems that this topic is just between you and me, let's talk in email.

Best regards
