View Full Version : Rackshack-Head Surfer special
Makeveli 08-17-2001, 01:23 PM -300GB bandwith/mo
-512MB RAM (I like!)
-2-20GB HD's
$129/mo, $300 Setup fee! when will this be available?
Would my forums be faster if I had 512MB RAM, rather than 256MB RAM?
Or about the same?
I really don't need the HD space, the RAM is what I like about it.
Pilot 08-17-2001, 03:10 PM Damn, I just bought a 256 MB, 1 disk one.
Lets hope there will be an upgrade path for the difference in price - if not I will get all cross!
The 2nd disk is really a backup solution, although might be good for performance as well.
The Prohacker 08-17-2001, 03:23 PM As I remember, they only had something like 15 of them, so its a one time offer I suspect....
But yes, the ram will help your forums, especially if you have several users online.....
Makeveli 08-17-2001, 03:40 PM Yes, I'll have around 20 users on consistently....

So, is that over? Or it hasn't started yet?
webbcite 08-17-2001, 06:40 PM It's gone...they only had 5 and they were gone in less than a day...
Bummer...
headsurfer 08-17-2001, 09:52 PM There were 5 and they went in a few hours.

Aloha maybe ya can do some of us on WHT a special that allready have an account with ya ;)
webbcite 08-17-2001, 11:52 PM They put 10 more servers up...the only difference with this batch is that they don't have the 24/7 monitoring included.
I picked one up...just too good to pass up...
dutchie 08-18-2001, 04:40 AM funny,
6 left, but the order page is under maintainance
Whats to maintain about a order page ?
btw rackshack has really GREAT ping times from the Netherlands,
avarage 125ms against 240ms at 4webspace.

Aloha
this has been one of my biggest bitches with rackshack is there pages go donw every night for maint around 12pm texas time and seems to last around 6 hours
major pain adn yes I agree why should they have to go down at all could you imagine amazon going down every night to fill orders ?
I know they will read this
you guys should try to get a better solution this would help out a lot
headsurfer 08-18-2001, 07:49 PM Here is the scoop. We do take down our order/maintenance pages each night. This is done for our daily batch processing on both the ISP/Hosting sides of our business.
Our ordering pages as well as maintenance and trouble ticketing systems are all inter-related and read from the same databases. Thus, when we do our nightly billing/processing, all database related systems go down for maintenance.
Our pricepoint is made possible by many things including the automation piece that takes care of the sales and provisioning of Raqs. If we had to manually set up every system, we'd charge more than we do.
We are CONSIDERING splitting our ISP/Rackshack systems into 2 seperate billing/provisioning systems. If this were to be the case, the downtime each night would be less than 30 minutes and the month-end about the same. Unfortunately, the cost is great (over $250k due to licenses required for the billing part as well as the credit card collections part. This is under serious consideration.
I try to listen to what everyone is asking for and have heard this one come up before.
Hono, I hear you. Boy, do I hear you! Rome wasn't built in a day, neither will Rackshack be the best it can be overnight. I hope you will agree, we have made dramatic improvements since our launch in Feb of this year.
That's the scoop from the man in the know!

Aloha
Yeah I hear ya ;)
I have not given up
I will also recomend people to ya
as you know I just say do your own dns
alwasy got to walk that fine line of balance
this is part of the balance bringing the system down
I guess maybe ya can mention it or something I had no clue that this would happen my time change falls in a bad time that is the main thing ;)
again bang for buck you guys are great (dns issues asside ;)
your network seems very fast and have had no probs as of recent so you are moving forward.
hope ya can keep moving forward and bringing us value along the way.
avara 08-19-2001, 02:50 PM I don't mind Rackshack's order/members pages going down for a few hours every night.
Avanti 08-19-2001, 06:17 PM  Having the members pages go down every night is actually quite annoying for me, as the time difference between Texas and the East cost of Australia (Brisbane) makes this down time fall in the late afternoon for me where.
I certainly would benefit if the downtime was much shorter or just not present in the first place... :D
