Eagle 08-17-2001, 09:18 AM I've heard it's a Dual P3 - 700Mhz with 256 RAM and around 40-50GB traffic jolly 08-17-2001, 09:22 AM 40-50 GB per day  allera 08-17-2001, 09:39 AM Is WHT on a dedicated machine or running in a shared environment? Chicken 08-17-2001, 10:17 AM Dedicated and jolly, 40-60-ish per month, not per day :D I don't have exact figures, it has been posted before, but surely has changed since then. Email sysop for current stats. HOST18.com 08-17-2001, 11:59 AM Are you running this site at a loss or do you have some kind of sponsorship that meets (or exceeds) your cost? Cyberpunk 08-17-2001, 12:25 PM A while ago they were given a dedicated server by voxel.net, see the logo in the very bottom right hand corner, that leads to a hosting billing software site owned by voxel net. Nice arrangement, we get a fast forum without being hammered by adverts. mahinder 08-17-2001, 03:11 PM that's fine but matt started some advertisement campaign on this web site and shut it down. but i ever wonder are moderators paid or they just do charity ??? LOLOLOLOL Just Kidding. :stickout Chicken 08-17-2001, 06:51 PM Back way back then, I can't recall. Maybe Matt asked, and I emailed saying I'd be happy to, or he put out a general announcement, and I replied. Currently, new mods were chosen based on number of posts, quality of those posts, and non-affiliation with hosting companies. http://www.voxel.net 's http://www.ubersmith.com product graciously sponsor's the forum and provides the hardware and needed bandwidth for the site. Moderators do not get paid, though if Matt or anyone else offered me $40K/yr. to mod a forum I'd quit my day job. :D jolly 08-18-2001, 02:06 AM What is the server configuration of WHT. Voxel and ubersmith are only providing WHT there products but what is the revenue model of WHT. Chicken how you become the moderator? Was it your idea to start WHT? Is WHT running anyother forum site? Are you guys looking for sponser? :) Chicken 08-18-2001, 09:16 AM Originally posted by jolly What is the server configuration of WHT. Ask matt, I can't recall. it was posted at least once before. Voxel and ubersmith are only providing WHT there products but what is the revenue model of WHT. There isn't one really far as I can tell. I won't say we're non-profit (as that almost got me in trouble last time). *Currently* we're non-profit (is that better?) :D Chicken how you become the moderator? I can't remember what I had for breakfast *yesterday* let alone that far back. Must have been the rough college years that contributed to the rapid deletion of brain cells. Was it your idea to start WHT? Sure wasn't. Webhostingcluck.com ? Is WHT running anyother forum site? This is it for now... Are you guys looking for sponser? Doesn't seem so at the moment, though this won't be the only site Matt's going to have up (maybe for the other site, maybe in the future for this site). best to email sysop (link below, bottom left) and express interest. You may not hear back for some time, but at least he'll have your email. BC 08-19-2001, 06:09 AM Originally posted by jolly What is the server configuration of WHT? Currently the box is a dual-PIII 933 with 512MB SDRAM, 18GB SCSI HD, VA Linux 6.2, located in the Above.net NOC @ New York. With regards to bandwidth, I believe we're transferring anywhere between 3-4 GB per day without mod_gzip. inoverse 08-20-2001, 10:48 PM I'm just curious....how many hours do you spend on here a day Chicken? venomx 08-24-2001, 04:05 AM inoverse: I bet Chicken will say 2 or 3 but his wife would say 23! :) |
