View Full Version : sendmail relaying denied error

I have an account with a cheapo web provider. I'm not sure which RaQ it is, but here is the login information I get after telnetting to my domain:

Cobalt Linux release 6.0 (Shinkansen-Decaf)
Kernel 2.2.16C24_III on an i586

I dont have access to telnet, and am logged out shortly after logging in. However, I have a feeling the guys at my ISP don't know what the problem is, because I never get a response from them. The thing is, I can send mail to users WITHIN my domain, however I can't send mail to any users outside my domain. The error I get after telnetting to my domain at port 25 and doing the authorization and mail from: etc.. is "Relaying denied". Is there a quick fix for this? Thanks!

You need to install the POP before SMTP patch from Cobalt on the Raq or specify the allowable relays in your control panel.

Using POP before SMTP is a good solution because then you do not have to worry about what your IP address is.

This is set up this way to prevent spam going through your server.

c0dy,

With that version of the RaQ, the option "should" already be installed, but not turned on.

Log into the Admin screens,
- Control Panel
- Email Server, Click Parameters

Near the bottom you should see "Pop before smtp relay". There is a time just below that. The default is 15 minutes (I believe).

Once this is turned on, you need to first check your e-mail (i.e. log into pop) then you can send e-mail (i.e. relay) for the next 15 minutes.
