Looks like this is retailing at $199 per server, a little overpriced?
Nymix-CB 09-10-2003, 08:06 AM Hum, 199$ for a buggy software that will install old versions of everything? No way :)

This is Ensim not CPanel, it probably wont be buggy.
Coach 09-10-2003, 09:23 AM $200 for something that installs free open-source software.
No.
My reason why. (http://www.icdevgroup.org/i/dev/cpanel.html?id=VWCYgjZy)
UH-Matt 09-10-2003, 09:26 AM Interchange isnt included with the Ensim Pro package.
I do agree with this point though:
"but I do have something against proprietary software including open-source software and then offloading support issues it creates onto that software's community without contributing a thing to it."
Coach 09-10-2003, 09:29 AM Exactly. That quote from Interchange is the main reason why I wouldn't offer it unless I was ready to fully and completely support what was offered with it.

Not just no, but hell no, god I can see the support tickets already, and not buggy? Has anyone noticed Ensim 3.5 PRO is already on .18? it was released when, March? May? And we're not talking new software like Directadmin where you'd figure on them fleshing things out this is "PRO" this is supposed to be the bomb out of the box, 18 patches and upgrades in that short of time, and someone dares to say Ensim isn't buggy? HAH!
Also I'm damned tired of every time I turn around someone's trying to dip another $100, $200, $250 etc out of my pocket for every server I own, screw that I'm in the business to make money not continuously syphon my profits off in software purchases. First it was the "upgrade" (more like a bug fix with some minor feature additions) from Ensim 3 to Ensim PRO for $250 per server now this.
DirectAdmin here I come, at least when something flakes out on DA I can be like "well yeah but at least I didn't pay $650 a server for this buggy crap".
Er that's my rant for the day I feel better now :D
high-flying 09-10-2003, 10:45 AM It's not 18 patches - ensim now have the habbit for not numbering their updates correctly, most of them since 3.5 have been 3-5 number jump not logical like 6,7,8,9 etc.

Ronald_Craft 09-10-2003, 10:52 AM I've decided to go for directadmin as well and it's great so far. DA is definitly worth the money.

Back to Ensim ... I am looking forward to try their Windows 2003 solution. I hope everything turns out well.
Nymix-CB 09-10-2003, 01:44 PM I'm actually looking to buy some DA licenses...it looks very good.
UH-Matt 09-10-2003, 02:48 PM Ive heard of a lot of DA bugs. I certainly wouldnt trust it on a productions server yet when comparing it with Ensim/Cpanel/Plesk/Hsphere. Its on a steep learning curve.
P.S. Those of you with RS servers will be pleased to know there is a special deal being announced soon for the "powertools" addon. ;)

Those of you with RS servers will be pleased to know there is a special deal being announced soon for the "powertools" addon. ;) I think bugs are always be there, even with Plesk (which I found to be very stable) and other control panels. The good thing about DirectAdmin is the developers always respond and release the patch quickly. If you go to their forum, there are so many good remarks about them. DA is very stable and since the first time I install it in the production server, I have never heard any problem at all. It's a very good product.
sprintserve 09-11-2003, 03:19 AM To me it's not good enough to patch things quickly, but to make it as flawless as possible first time round especially for the more critical software. When something breaks, you get a cascading effect... you face hundreds of customers who may be affected (or more if you are bigger) while they just have to face you. This is one of the issues with Cpanel.

This is one of the issues with Cpanel. I have not heard any control panel that works flawlessy first time around. I have never heard any cascading effect on DirectAdmin either. It seems that each bug is quite isolated without affecting other features. The latest release has never given me any problem at all.
sprintserve 09-11-2003, 06:51 AM I'm speaking generally. Ya. That's why most control panels are not up to scratch. Cascading effect in the perspective that it affects many users or clients, not from the viewpoint that it affect other features.
