I've been having this problem for ages with my old PSU (Raidmax 400 Watt) but today I got my new Antec True430 430Watt power supply and put it in. After about 3 minutes of use the fan on it started making a really loud whirrrrrrr sound. So I went to the the BIOS screen to check my RPMs on my fans and I forget the exact number but the chassis fan was up to around 1300 RPM and was highlighted in red.

I have no idea what to do, this fan sound is really annoying. Any ideas how to muffle it or possibly fix it?

1300 is really LOW, as the red would seem to indicate.

Now which fan are you talking about? You say the PSU fan but then you say the chassis fan. So which is it?

make sure nothing is catching the fan as it spins, such as a wire. that can cause a great deal of noise and would also slow down your fan.

Once I had a computer that the fan sounded like a jet....before it crashed and burned...

In the BIOS it's the chassis fan but I'm pretty sure it's the PSU fan that's really loud. I have no idea what fan it is, it might be the processor. All I know is it's loud and I don't like it!

I know the sound of a wire and this isn't it, it just a loud whirrrrrr sound. If I could find my mic I'd upload the sound. If I shut down for about half and hour it'll go away for about the rest of that hour then start back up again... IT's so annoying!

I have 2 fans that sound like jets in my chassis at the moment. And that's when they're running at 7V. They're 80 mm delta's that each have an airflow of more than 130 m3/hour when running at 12 V :D

I never had airconditioning in my room, but it sure feels like I do now.

I just poked my head into my case while it was on (don't ask why..I do that sometimes) and I've decided it's my processor fan. Is there anything I can do to bring down the noise level on it? It's a P4 3.06GHz so I can understand why it's loud but I wish I could muffle the SOUND! IT'S ANNOYING!!!!

Water cooling would do it. Cost a few bucks but worth it if the noise really bugs you.
