View Full Version : PaySystems Vs. WorldPay
papaj 09-09-2003, 03:56 PM Lately as I've been reading posts in the forum I have seen numerous complaints about PaySystems, mainly about the chargeback issues and many more. My initial plan was to signup for PaySystems, as it seems to be the most commonly used among WebHosts, but now that I see all these complaints I'm a little hesitant. I have been hearing some good remarks about WorldPay though. So what do you guys think I should use?:
PaySystems
or
WorldPay
The Spook 09-09-2003, 04:36 PM Most people here would agree a full merchant account or World pay are better than PaySystems. I personally think WorldPay is way overpriced, but it depends on your budget. For the price of WorldPay, I'd rather get a full merchant account (which is what I'm using). So which should you use? Low budget with no need for advanced billing - PaySystems. Medium budget with greater flexibility - full merchant account.
Even though I'm told they're a great service, WorldPay's $300 signup is rediculous, IMO. Their other rates aren't so hot either:
Setup $299 USD
Monthly $35 USD
Single 3.25% + $0.50
Multi 5.25% + $0.50
Chargebacks $15 USD
Settlement - Generally weekly with one week in arrears - $4.00 USD
What's with the $4.00 settlement fee?! That's an extra $16/month! Why not make the monthly minimum $51?
My $.02
papaj 09-09-2003, 04:58 PM Ok then, what do 'you' use for a Full Merchant Account? Is WorldPay considered a full merchant? I would much rather have a full merchant account than a 3rd party one, so what do you suggest?
Rich2k 09-09-2003, 04:58 PM I'm about to activate my paysystems account. The holdback fee isn't bad (but not lovely either!)
What is the underwriting process like? What do they request?
The Spook 09-09-2003, 05:01 PM My merchant account is through cdgcommerce.com. Good rates.

This is the rate in US only. Also, it is near impossible for new (non-US) company to get a merchant account.
ozzie123 09-09-2003, 06:21 PM Can someone explain to me how to get a full merchant account (via forum/email/PM?) Thx
The Spook 09-09-2003, 08:22 PM You can sign up with any merchant company. Here is a comparison list:
http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=175347
They'll perform a credit check and may require a business checking account and business license.
Some of the ones I've seen mentioned around here quite a bit are e-onlinedata (http://www.e-onlinedata.com) and Echo (http://www.echo-inc.com/), but there are many others. Generally, you're talking a minimum of $25/month plus transaction fees, but different companies offer different deals and rates. You should be able to find plenty of companies that don't charge a startup fee. I personally am using CDG commerce, and I've been happy.
papaj 09-09-2003, 08:37 PM PaySystems pretty much accepts anyone who signs up for their service. If I had to guess i'd say they probably accept 99.9% of future Merchants.
wubwob 09-09-2003, 09:11 PM We use worldpay. They are top notch. Havent had any problems. They are 100% online - meaning i can take orders even if our network is down for whatever reason!
Reptilian Feline 09-10-2003, 02:33 AM One thing with WordlPay is that they offer a guarantee that protect both the seller and the buyer, and their payment pages can be customized a lot.
wheimeng 09-10-2003, 02:43 AM Only US could easily get a full merchant account. Others wont be easy.

what do you mean? if you receive a fraud payment, you are absolved and they will absorb the loss?

Yes, if you use their "WorldPay Guarantee" which costs an additional 1%, I believe.
We use paysystems, they have been great and it is nice to have 3rd party verifcation..so you don't have to.

I am looking at CDGCommerce, I like how your site has calculates the pro-rated amount like below:
You have selected the following:
Standard Hosting - $5.95/month (Billed monthly on the 1st)
Your first bill will be a prorated $0.19 for the remainder of this month
Is this something that CDG does, or is this a script that you have that calculates this for you?
Thank You,

The Spook 09-30-2003, 05:33 PM With CDG Commerce and their recurring billing, you have the option of creating a "recipe" for every day of the month you want to be able to bill on OR billing on the same day. I chose to bill on the same day because of the following reasons:
1. I get one big milk check.
2. It's easier to set up in their system because I don't have to create a "recipe" for every day of the month.
However, I had to write my own script to take care of prorating it and then pass it to their gateway. The math is simple if you bill on the first of the month:
(today's date/days in month)*subscription rate
Example for 15th of October: (15/31)*5.95=$2.88
