View Full Version : Why the Moderators suck
JBIZ718 08-16-2001, 06:25 AM Its un real how these moderators are rediculus.
I mean its just a joke with there reasoning for shutting down specific posts.
http://webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?threadid=18465
Is this really a survey. Specifically this was posted in the Lounge, where when your in a lounge you discuss many things.
Im not taking a survey. Im trying to discuss a topic on server financing, and yet it seems this cannot be discussed.
I question how they shut down this specific post, but i can go through a ton of posts on this forum that break the rules and yet are never shut down.
If your gonna follow the rules, make it all the time, dont pick and choose your posts.
Joe
Lonny 08-16-2001, 06:48 AM don't start, chicken will shut you down... :)
becareful with your posts..
JBIZ718 08-16-2001, 06:53 AM Im just venting at a post being shut down, in actual they do a good job.

.......in actual they do a good job....Yes; I must agree. I have been to other forums where I wished they would have been as well moderated:rolleyes:
alchiba 08-16-2001, 03:10 PM At times the mods seem a bit trigger-happy, but that's understandable given the nature of a forum such as this. Careful wording of your post is your best offense. As a second resort, try appealing their decision by pm or email; with fresh eyes they might just see your side.
In any case, telling someone they "suck" is no way to win them over. It's become a meaningless expression anyway. ;)
mkaufman 08-16-2001, 03:36 PM And I must say that some of the moderators (defintely not Chicken or BC) are not respectful at all..in this case for example, JBIZ718 has not gotten in trouble or broke many (...any?) rules before and got a rude response from kunal (sorry..) which he could have presented in a different more approiate way.
Woody 08-16-2001, 03:48 PM I just had a look through the rules and I didn't see anything about surveys. Am I missing something?

If the business was allowed to be promoted in the WebHostingTalk Lounge; it would have set a bad precedent.
Although he was just seeking input on a plan he was considering, it is still a clear violation of forum rules.
kunal may have been blunt in his response, but I tend to regard that as a personality trait; and not a direct attack on the poster.
There is much to be moderated here and you cannot expect a mod to take the time to direct the individual to the specifics every time they see a rule infraction.
Again, I would like to applaud the moderation being performed at this forum.
Just my thoughts.

Participants may not solicit the membership for feedback or suggestions on their product or services.
sbrad 08-16-2001, 04:05 PM IMHO, you are over reacting. Did you try emailing him and ask him why he did it?
This isn't life or death here. So to start a thread with the title "Why the Moderators Suck" is silly.
On a personal note...the thread didn't look THAT bad.
sbrad 08-16-2001, 04:07 PM Participants may not solicit the membership for feedback or suggestions on their product or services.
But I think it was more of a hypothetical, what if, give me your ideas kinda thing.

Woody 08-16-2001, 04:41 PM Ok, I missed that. Now may I ask what the point of that rule is?

SoftWareRevue you have great sense of humor.
anyway, but where JBIZ718 should have been discuss such things ?
JBIZ718 08-16-2001, 04:55 PM We simply turned the post into a advertisment.
Simple solution for us.
I think that the moderators are solid but at many times inconsistent with the rules they preech here.

. . . .Now may I ask what the point of that rule is? Well, I would say, it all goes back to Participants may not use the Forum for commercial gain. But, maybe a mod could correct me if I'm wrong.
mahinder, I'm sure if JBIZ718 would have first posted in the Advertising forum, it would have been just fine.
But, I'm not a moderator :( I would suggest we wait for one to address this.

i was just wondering how MATT select these moderators. Are they paid for there job or they work for charity ?
It will be very good if matt or anyone else post about the story of how WHT came into existence. :cartman:

AFAIK, they don't get any monetary compensation for being a mod.
Chicken 08-16-2001, 07:22 PM You are correct on the violation:
Participants may not solicit the membership for feedback or suggestions on their product or services.
A post by a company (any company) stating that they are thinking of selling custom built servers, and how the plan would work is not permitted. The thread then continues, and we learn that the server can be shipped anywhere, or you can host it with them, 'contact me for more details'.
Just to clarify, it isn't the 'feedback' part. That's what the forum is for. The thread was closed due to feedback being requested 'about a product or service' the thread starter offers (in this case, will be offering).
I do believe it might have been possible to word it another way, though if you are ever unsure, please email the moderators and request they look at the post you'd like to make we'll do our best to find time to reword it so that it conforms to the guidelines (if needed) and/or suggest that it be placed in another forum.
(I did find the thread title ummm... interesting and no we don't get anything for pissing you all off so much :D, but it should be worth a couple of bucks eh?).
JBIZ718 08-16-2001, 08:31 PM Alot of corruption on this board
Enough said
Joe
sbrad 08-16-2001, 08:32 PM Alot of corruption on this board
Yep. I bet Chicken did it, in the library, with the candlestick.
Chicken 08-16-2001, 08:43 PM Shhhhh... don't tell. Anyway, since we've started in with the corruption thing again, seems to be about the time to close this puppy. You know, corruption.
