View Full Version : Which TLD's do you own?

Just a quick question to see which TLD's (top level domains) seem to be most popular nowadays...

It's a multiple selection poll so please tick a box for each TLD you personally own (not clients). Okay... well not personally own the actual TLD, you know what I mean ;)

I suspect .COM will be the most popular ... with .NET and .ORG coming in second and then .INFO, .TK and .US domains after that.

But you never know... should be interesting to see and you get to tick a lot of little boxes - which is always fun :)

no surprise to me. You must register for at least 10 years, so it's very expensive, and for trademarks you can as well register .com or if taken yet the ccTLD of the country where the company is based.

It surprises me more that .tv domains (who are excellent for sites with many media files) only scored 1 so far. I'd like one myself but they're still a bit expensive for me.

I don't know if .me.uk are good investments. .co.uk and .org.uk are more famous and very cheap as well at some places, so why taking .me.uk ? By the way, not many .co.uk registrars that also offer .me.uk

It's like .nnn.nl , .id.au and .name . For name domains I think .me.uk is as low in value as .nnn.nl or .id.au , if I want a personal domain I'll take the .com or eventually .name or .be (as a Belgian)

Personally, I "have" two .tk domains ("own" is not correct for free .tk domains) and own two .com domains.

I hope .eu is there soon, there are at least 2 .eu's I would love to have. For Europeans (like me and a minority on this forum) I think .eu will be the next best thing after .com
Anyway, I am very very enthousiast about .eu

If you have over 5 sites... Building a site has become quite easy and inexpensive nowadays, so why not owning 10 domains then ?

On the other hand, that must be the maximum for me. I cannot imagine someone has the time to work on several hundred websites

for the moment I have two .com for 1 site, that's enough I guess until I launch an additional site.

what is the use of .bz and especially what's the use of .su and .st ??

.su = Sudan
.st = St Helena (right ?)

what is the use of them, unless you live in Sudan or on St-Helena ? Plus, St-Helena domains are very expensive.

hmm... actually, according to www.nic.st: .st domains are for São Tomé - wherever that is :)

However, they seem to be marketing st towards being a 'street' domain name... interesting.

Gerrit,

You never know, he might have those personal domains (id.au / me.uk ) for a personal reason and not really caring about the resale value ;)

I for one like the idea of .id.au - was great since the .com.au and .net.au were taken by a company they didn't seem to be that quick to register the .id.au (which happens to be a personal site of mine now). :)

Is .su still a real ccTLD (= recognised and protected by IANA), despite the fact that the Soviet Union is gone for over 10 years ?

I mean, Zaire was renamed Congo and very short after that .zr was gone and replaced by a new ccTLD.

Plus, why is .su more expensive than .ru, when the current country is named Russia ?? Makes no sense to me.

.st = looks like a strange deal to me. 35 $ a year + extra money for DNS use ?? Way too expensive for me.

It seems like the ST Registry is based in Stockholm. Another case of a small country selling its TLD to a foreign company (like .TK , .TV , .TO , .PN , ...)
