I am trying to bring my non-profit, professional organization out of the dark ages. In addition to getting them their own web host, I want to help out the Membership Chairperson manage her email list. I just came across the term "Email Publishing" and the idea of email lists where users come to your web site and self subscribe / unsubscribe to lists. That would make her life a lot easier. We are not publishing a newsletter or doing any mailing campaigns ... just trying to notify members of new things happening in the association.

Can anyone give me an idea of what to look for? I understand I need to find a provider who won't load the emails with ads / popups. Also, they need to take measures to ensure no viruses go out on our emailings. I understand that some providers sell the list or robots extract that data.

What should I use as my criteria for selecting this feature? Do I need to find a web host that will provide this as part of their package? Do I have buy software?
