View Full Version : HostPro - Take Take!
BoBo2k 08-15-2001, 06:15 AM Be careful with choosing HostPro - read the Terms of Cancellation FIRST before you sign up.
Have finished with this company, I put in a cancellation on July 26. Waiting 2 weeks later, they deny all knowledge of such a request. After another 2 attempts they finally agree but point me to the terms of cancellation notice.
This states that a 45 day window is needed for all canceled accounts - meaning you will pay for a 1 month and 15 days AFTER you have canceled even if you are no longer using them.
Geez, this has cost me punishing $375.00 to leave them, a sum I cannot possibly afford :(
Deb Suran 08-15-2001, 08:33 AM Just because a host says something doesn't mean it's so, as many of us have learned. I don't believe that what HostPro is trying to force you to pay is a legal charge
If you are no longer using their services and have notified them of same, contact your bank and dispute the charge for the final 45 days. If HostPro still charges you, tell your bank you want to charge-back the final bill as you were no longer a customer, and notified them before the end of the month of July that you wanted to cancel your account.
E-mail or fax HostPro telling them what happened, including the date on which you first informed them that you were closing your account, and stating that you will not allow them to continue to charge you after you have sent notification of cancellation. Save a copy of your fax or e-mail to send to your bank, and make some additional copies to send to the BBB and Attorney General of their state if they give you any additional trouble. See the last link in my signature for contact information for the BBB and state AG's offices (last page).
BoBo2k 08-15-2001, 08:40 AM This is very good advice, thank you.
Also to note on the cancellation form, there are no details about any conditions of such cancellations. Instead, the conditions are located deep within their legal documents located elsewhere on the site. You only know about them when you go hunting.
Another point in my favor?
SoftWareRevue 08-15-2001, 09:28 AM Another point in your favor;)

Big company == a lot of problems for customers!!!!!!
shiphq 08-18-2001, 01:43 PM Everytime I sign up with a web hosting company, I use a credit card I rarely use. When I cancel my hosting, I simply cancel my credit card. I learned my lesson after trying to cancel with WebHosting.com. They kept charging after I cancelled. Fortunately, my chargeback request was honored by my credit card company.
From that point on, I simply cancel my credit card in addition to asking the host to terminate my account. I did that with Interland. They kept trying to "bill me" by email but I just hit the delete button on Outlook.
sbrad 08-18-2001, 02:31 PM Same thing happened to me. I cancelled, and then 31 days later had a $95 charge for yet another month. The billing department DOES NOT reply to email. Hell, I couldn't even get them on the phone. So finally I learned that if I called Customer Service (oxymoron), then they would do what they could, and walk over to the billing department.
Still didn't work. So 1 chargeback later I'm done with 'em.
HostMag 08-18-2001, 10:40 PM This is good to know concerning HostPro. We've received several emails recently concerning HostPro that were not too kind to them. Until recently our feedback concerning HostPro has generally been positive. It has only recently been negative.
Most of the feedback concerns HostPro's support, and inability to respond quickly to any kind on inquiry.
Do you think they have grown too big now? Was their acquisition by Micron the major factor here? Or are these isolated cases?
We will be doing an update of their review soon and I'd be interested in knowing if others have had similar experiences with HostPro or if their experiences have been positive.
Aloha
they are slipping I was a customer with vservers over 4 years no w
but very soon I am all done
they owe me over $150 in overcharges
have had a lot of problems last few months with them and charging me
Ray Pollett 08-19-2001, 11:20 AM My experience with them has not been good, But I know nothing about computers or hosting. On one ocassion it took three e-mails and a week for a response to a question. Never have got thru on their phone techinal help, long wait on hold.
I can not recomend them and am thinking of moving to a different host.
Ray
BoBo2k 08-19-2001, 05:11 PM Update...
Looking at my credit card statement today indicates HostPro have refunded the month charge for this unused month.
They still have taken 10.00 from me though - for what I'm not sure, but at least I got this months hosting fee back without a challenge.
I'm still going to watch the situation very closely though.
