Wow, just saw this on the news
dapon 09-05-2003, 07:42 PM That is really an unfortunate accident. Disneyland has a terrific safety record.
I already have tickets and will be there tomorrow. I hear that Space Mountain is also closed for repairs.
Chicken 09-05-2003, 09:34 PM That train rollercoaster is one I can actually stomach. Pity, hope they will figure out the cause. Condolences to the families and friends of the injured and killed. :(
Stephen 09-05-2003, 11:07 PM man that sucks big time, did to what chicken said condolences to the families and friends.
Acroplex 09-05-2003, 11:14 PM I hate rollercoasters, period.
Thats terrible, I read the newspaper yesterday and it only reported injuries. Utterly Tragic
secludo 09-06-2003, 03:08 AM :(
We were just there in June :( What a horrible thing to have happen.
cyansmoker 09-06-2003, 03:13 AM Were there more problems in these parks this year than usual, or is it just me?
MattF 09-06-2003, 05:23 AM We just got back from Disneyland Resort Paris. That is scary, could of happened to anyone of us.
anon-e-mouse 09-06-2003, 06:40 AM I saw an interview from there with some Aussies, who had taken the ride 30 minutes earlier. They enjoyed the ride, and I bet they are glad they went when they did :)

Very sad. It's supposed to be fun, they always tell you 'nothing can happen, it's safe'
Anyway, when I'm on those things, i'm always a little afraid, but you always think ' It won't happen to me ...'
Cirtex 09-06-2003, 10:33 AM Heres some pictures of the rollercoaster:

Well,
In todays world, nothing is "safe" i am deafly afraid of roller coasters,i dont go on them.....I went on 1 in florida (Mountain or something,in the dark) it scared the hell out of me,since then,i havent gone on any coasters.....
The Dude :)
I am always afraid to go on big rides like that because I am afraid of it falling apart or me falling out.
I was riding one at the local carnival were your in a cage and it spins around as you go up and down in a spiral.
As we were riding the door slipped open but I was holding on and grabbed it and held it till the end of the ride as my yelling out to stop the ride wasn't heard because of the loud music.
When it stopped I pushed the door open and the carnie was shocked, saying how lucky I am, I was yelling at him about how lucky he was I wasn't suing.
I will never go on a big ride again unless its grounded.
brandonk 09-06-2003, 11:52 PM Did anyone find the Disney response very... unlike Disney? No "we're investigating"... no "we don't want this to happen again" etc...
As for the ride, well it's hardly a roller coaster, it's just a train. Go over to California Adventure to ride the real roller coaster... loads of fun.
Dapon, when I was there in June Space Mountain was closed, Pirates of the Carribean, and a few others I can't remember... it sucked, hopefully you bought tickets to California Adventure.
Artashes 09-07-2003, 12:30 AM Someone'll get sued big time now...
PCplayground 09-07-2003, 01:50 AM I knew a few families at Disney Land the night this happened. Ended up calling all of them and finding out they were okay. :)
Indeed it could have been anyone. I was just there probably 3 weeks ago, and I will be going there in another week or two. :-/

I hate to turn a sad thread like this into something cool and exciting... but that roller coaster is AWESOME!!!! I got my dad to go on it with me, who was just recently getting over his fear of roller coasters, and he loved it too! It was scary as hell in the beginning because you don't expect it, with the count down going on and then all of a sudden you go from sitting completely still to like 60mph in a few seconds, but it was sooo much fun! Too bad it doesn't last longer :stickout: Soarin' Over California was way cool also. I swear over some of the ocean scenes I could feel my feet skimming against the water.
When we were there I don't remember any rides being closed except Pirates of the Carribean was closed for part of our trip but it opened up on either Friday or Saturday and we were there until Sunday, so we got to go on it still.

Just got back yesterday. Space Mountain is closed until 2005. Willl re-open for the 50th aniver. Splash Mountain was closed for maintanience. And of course Thunder Mountain was closed. All of the mountain rides. Still had a good time.
California adventure was sooo crowded. They had all of the ABC T.V. stars there. I think about 80 stars total. Disneyland was almost empty. The longest line all day was about 25 minutes. So we spent all of our time in Disneyland and Downtown Disney.
secludo 09-08-2003, 12:46 PM There were some soap stars or something in California Adventure when we went  Actually it was really cool, because while there were TONS of people who were in California Adventure, most were waiting in various lines to see the soap stars so the lines for the rides were really short!! We didn't stay in California Adventure much though, I didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would.
In Disneyland we had the fast pass tickets so we just used those and usually had to come back an hour or so later, then we got to the front of the line almost immediately.
Glad you had a good time :) Are you going back for the 50th anniversary? My dad is a HUGE Disney freak (you should see his office!!) and he's already been getting in contact with Disney to find out what's going on and when he should be making reservations :stickout
