Well, I have searched this forum for Aletia Hosting and I have read some of the 125 topics, I know that a lot newbies ask about Aletia Hosting [Just like me], but I just would like to know what you all think of them.

Sofar I havent heard of any bad experiences, but if there are any please post, because I am a total newbie to paid webhosting and I want to be sure I make the right choice.

Oh right is it true you cant have a ubb on there servers!? Thats not a problem, but I just like to know if I have to get a vbullitin.

So please tell me your bad and good experiences with them.

Thanks, 'Another newbie who starts a new topic about Aletia Hosting' ;)

Not entirely true. If your UBB does not use a flat-file backend, then you're allowed to run. You may want to wait until IkonBoard 3 comes out with its MySQL version; it should be a great free alternative to vBulletin (or even phpBB for that matter).

Meanwhile to stay on topic, I've communicated with Mark Vockler from Aletia and he seems to be a great guy. I asked him some pretty serious tech questions and he responded them nicely. I just now have to convert my authenticatin system to MySQL (about 50% done) and then I'm moving onto Aletia due to problems with Hypermart's SendMail and ads now.

The Aletia host I'm on has swf support via the ming library. For those who don't know ming is an opensource library that generates Flash content. They currently have it compiled with php and I'm quite pleased that they would give such a perk to a $7.95/month account.

More info on the ming library: http://opaque.net/ming
More info on Aletia's php configuration: http://cheetah.nocdns.com/phpinfo/
They also have great support on AIM and ICQ.

Uhmmm, qasic, so is it possible to run a ubb on there server or not!? I dont understand, cause I am kind of a newbie to forums and are Ikonboard and PhpBB better than vbulletin!?

Oh, btw qasic are you the guy from Whos Online!? 4.0.0!?

Aletia are totally first class - excellent customer support and they always keep you notified on their busy company forums - http://www.aletiaforums.com

As an ex-*****, ex-LIQUIDWEB, ex-ADDR, ex-HOSTSAVE, ex-LINUXWEBHOST user, I can safely say they are AMAZING! ;)

I think they have the best service! ^_^ (Although I'm kinda afraid to talk to them since I ask dumb questions and stuff... ^^;;)

And if you have any problems, you'll find help at the forums! ^_^ (Not by me though, I never can give out good help to people... ^^ I'm just a loser... *sigh*)

According to http://www.aletiahosting.com/policies/aup.html you can't run the free version of UltimateBB. It uses a text database and is therefore a resource hog. Try phpBB instead, it's much faster, uses MySQL, and is an overall better board.

Actually, you CAN run the normal ultimatebb but if it becomes a resource hog they'll disable it right away (that's why it's not recommended). However, as a JAPH, I could handily convert all flat-files to MySQL so that won't be a problem. Besides, I don't plan to run a UBB on Aletia :)

I'll be signing up @ Aletia tonight. Hope everything goes well :)

Anways, yes, I am the same qasic who helped develop the WOL hack. Pretty good hack that will become obsolete in UBB 6.2 :)

Adam,

Yes, we had requests for this too and have the newest pre-release 2 installed with support for Flash 5 actionscript with the latest bug fixes. Pretty cool!

Our Independent Review Staff just finished reviewing Aletia Hosting. They had a test site there and went through our HostFactor criteria and they thought Aletia was excellent and received our highest recommendation.

Aletia Hosting is great !

I've been with them for 2 months and very please with their support (via e-mail and AIM).

Their hosting features are great, too. There's only 1 thing that I'm looking for but they don't have : JSP & Servlets. They told me that they will install Tomcat but I'm still waiting...

I RECOMMEND ALETIA !

I'd just like to post a warning about Aletia Hosting.I don't know if this has happened to others, but I quit Aletia 3 months ago, and they are still charging me every month. I have repeatedly tried to get their customer support to help me, but without success, or even a response. I may be forced to get a new credit card.

Why bring up all these really old threads when there are newer ones dealing with the exact same problem that you and quite a lot of the rest of us have faced when dealing with Aletia? Makes no sense.

"Sofar I havent heard of any bad experiences"

Then you really did not search this forum!
Phony address to start with.
Please note that must all host reviews done by review web sites are done to look like reviews! What they really are is paid ads.
I would not let my AOL using worse enemy use this host!
Do they still have a forum on their site to just deal with down time?
The best way to check out a host, is to check their forums. That is where you can pretty much find what is going on!
Check out their forums and see what users are really saying..... with any host!

Yeah, maybe there should be a rule about reviving threads after so long.. it seems kinda silly.

OK, I think that's enough....

In future, please start a new thread instead of reviving 8-month old ones.....
