View Full Version : Opioions from the gurus
abraxus22 09-05-2003, 02:58 PM Hi all,
I am not a newbie to this realm of conversation but I am a newbie to this board. I need some help with some info. I currently have a client which is need of particular features (basic for the most part).
Here are the features needed. Maybe you gurus can help me out from past experience. I have researched many many hosts from this forum but no luck since most have so-so quality.
Remember this must be a budget host! - I know, I know - you get what you pay for but this client doesn't want to hear that. Please give me the best providers that you can.

By the way - what does people think of uplinkearth?
Thanks for your time in this matter
Dan L 09-05-2003, 03:17 PM Well, I'd suppose you're looking for a Windows server.. the domain is $10 or less a year, and hosting can go $5/month or less, since you don't really need much. Can't comment on uplinkearth, though.
abraxus22 09-05-2003, 03:39 PM Yes, I am looking for windows hosting.
Any ideas
Thanks in advance for your time.
RossMAN 09-05-2003, 03:44 PM Take a look at FluidHosting.com (http://www.fluidhosting.com/comparison.php?os=windows) and search for user reviews here on WHT.
neostructura 09-08-2003, 08:45 PM i've been using uplinkearth now for a little over a year now - and i am not associated with them in any other way except as a happy and satisfied customer. i have 10 sites set up currently on two accounts - all on their virtual server solutions.
i have been pleased overall with the level of service and features that they offer. i originally went to uplinkearth for the excellent value and the range of features on their virtual hosting plans - and their very professionally looking site impressed me. at the time, there was not too much on them in terms of comments like on this forum, so i was a little nervous. i was a little skeptical about relying primarily on a email ticket system and hours that were less than 24/7 (had been with Interland before), but my fears were allayed with their fairly quick responses (0.5-2.0 hours usually) and that many times, their techies work late into the night and on weekend, and will answer tickets if they are around it seems. many thanks to Al and Eileen and others there that have joined the team in providing me assistance. they have also increase their business hours since i originally signed up too.
the servers have been fairly reliable - have not noticed any significant downtime except when they notified us and upgraded their data circuits and reorganized their network infrastructure to handle a larger capacity back in june. and the few times that i did notice it down, a quick email or call during biz hours always had it back up within the hour.
their reseller program was reworked completely at the beginning of the year. it did take them a little while to update the commissions to their resellers which is the only thing i would say was a little less than satisfactory (but if this is the only real problem, then this is not that big of a deal as i am not selling 100's of sites). it seems like it is working fine now.
their website and control panel are nicely designed and very clean. i think their control panel could add some features which they seem to be adding very slowly over time (i am a fan of media temple's control panel - clean also but with alot more features too - but these guys cost more). uplinkearth's support/faq section could use some improvement, but with the email ticketing system, it is so easy to talk to them about even basic questions.
overall, i give them credit for a job well done - i have had a good experience with them and would recommend them to most everyone looking for a great value for similar virtual hosting as long as the features they offer with their plans match your needs for your site.
ozzie123 09-09-2003, 04:39 AM Windows hosting under $5?? Where can i found that?
Jay H 09-09-2003, 05:20 AM This post would be better suited in the Shared Hosting request forum.

He asked for an advice.
RossMAN is right - try a search and check for some feedbacks on fluidhosting, on of the few i noticed around here (windows based).
I'm sorry, didn't noticed it's ANOTHER old thread.
Jay H 10-19-2003, 05:06 PM Dug up from the deep, I was reading this over and thought it sounded familiar..

I think you're likely to face this possible situation with any budget hosting plan. I would not put mission critical sites on a plan like this - and if monitoring uptime is that important, i would probably just use a third party service like watchdog or netmechanic for site monitoring.
ISNMIKE 10-26-2003, 03:35 AM if you find a host look on these forums also look over google, i haven't delt with windows servers alot
