Could anyone give me some kind of baseline for what temps should look like on a Dual 2400+ AMD ?

I'm in bios looking at :

CPU 1: 58c
CPU 2: 52c

Also what would be a good fan setup for these CPU's? I'm sending it for co-lo so nothing too loud...

58c is pretty damn good for the CPU's
Generally AMD under a load runs between 56-74c and stays fairly stable....mine runs 58-60 and have nt experienced any bad issues...and out of the 100's of systems I have built that is normal.


as far as cooling fans...check out OCZ Technologies or Cooler master..however OCZ Tech mainly built for those overclocking machines and gamers...they work wonderful in servers =)

scared me a little, My home PC runs 42c with a AMD 2800+

you have to tak into account the core technology of the processors...there are certain thoroughbred CPUS from AMD that run a hell of alot hotter... hell when the 2000+ came out it ran so hot that ou literally got 3rd degree burns when you touched it on accident or whatever.... they do run hot...depend on the core tech of them and what you have your core temp set at and if you are in anyway overclocking them inadvertantly or purposely.

Thats why i was asking, I don't have a whole lot of experiance with MP chips and what they run like,

by the way those temps are in the bios with zero load....

hmm no load? I would consider some better cooling...somehow I got the impression that was while using the machine and I did not read careully you were looking in BIOS...my bad....
those temps are a little high at an idle.

check out ocztech and coolermaster for some better cooling.

ok i flashed the bios and now i am reading these temps on the desktop.

CPU1 : 58c
CPU2 : 59c

whats fans altogether have u got in the system

its not just the cpu fans that could be causing this

you gotta realise that cpu fans will only remove heat from the proccessors as long as the case fans can remove heat from the case

if the whole system temp is warm, then your proccessors will run hot because the heat and sinks wont have and cold air to throw at them

now do you have case fans AS WELL AS the fans in the power supply

if so how many? what size?

how many fans are in the power supply, old ones have 1, most newer high powered ones come with 2

let me know that and we can see if it is infact anything to do with your cpu fans, or if infact, the case isn't removing the heat that the heat and sinks are pumping out

2 x 80mm Front fans pulling air in
2 x 80mm Rear pushing air out

2x ?? fans in PSU

I replaced the two stock front fans with 2 Thermaltakes and it seems to work pretty good.

yep all my 400 - 550 watt power supplies have 2 fans

one at the front, one on the side

hmmm seems you have good circulation in the case then so yea probably is the heat and sinks

nother thing you might look into if you havent already...most "stock" cpu heatsinks and fans come with a very low end thermal tape to disapate the heat between surfaces...try to get yourself some thermaltake thermal grease....believe it or not that stuff does wonders
