It looks like Amazon.com can't be guarantee they're going to get the domain name Amazon.biz (like they invented the word "Amazon" ), so they're suing the company responsible for the new .biz registrations saying they're running an illegal lottery.

Wow. That does look like a pretty shady way to handle it. But as much as it stinks, Amazon definitely sucks worse.

Legal president (i think that is how you spell it) Unless the person who does get it uses it for something like the amazon rainforest than Amazon has a very good case to sue for the name under brand awarness laws. Basically if I were to start a company called Saturn's Vans and sell vans at my car lot then Saturn can sue me to cease operations, why because I am indirectly impling a conection to the Saturn Car Company (which I do not have any) and using their brand to increase my sales (indirectly) and this is illegal in most countries. :smokin:

NICE! I would've attempted to say the same thing... but it would've came up like... "narf!"

Amazon.com is an excellent company and has been providing a great service. I don't care about all their minor legal problem, as long as they'll keep doing what they have done so far.

Almost every single "good" .com name I can think of (even for my limited brain compacity) is taken for at least a year.

Only now .net and .org are taking on. I've never been to a .tv, .biz, or .whatever.

Didn't amazon have to fight for one of the the amazon domains initially, it was originally owned by a small feminist bookshop, actually that sounds suspiciously like an urban myth.

Amazon as a domain hog are nothing compared to the "Easy" group of companies (originally EasyJet airlines) in the UK, apparently they think they have rights to ANY domain starting with "easy".

Same here :) I use Amazon all the time, and found them very professional.

Aloha
I must agree with some on both sides
I think it is a crime that these big companies can start gettnig names and suing people etc.. for like names
they are big let them buy all of them
just like the easy in UK that is scary
the once level playing field of the internet is going away again to big companies as the spread of high speed access continues and content gets richer I bet the spread will get even farther as small companies will not afford the bandwith to compete

yes I think companies can have rights to there name but only there name and direct names they have not names that are close etc...
it will be a scary day when someone one day wins precedence with more common words
any single word unless made up should not be able to be protected out to cover 2 word combinations past what they have registered and are using

side note : it is spelled precedence ;)

arghhhhh I wana be a pirate

:Sigh: Why don't they just make them all available at once and let everyone fight then...then they don't have to worry about this BS...
