Hello!

I have a some questions about chillisoft!

Does chilli soft support an access database uploaded to the system.

if not what is the actual benefit of Chilisoft ASP ... ie what databases does it support on the rack!

thanks. I did a search on WHT and did not find much on the above questions

I don't think you will get an access database to operate on the Linux platform. However, asp can connect to MySQL and many other databases.

what is the point of ASP on linux if it doesn't support Microsoft databases??????

Am I missing something!

It seems no one knew the answer to my questions so I went to the chillisoft website and discovered that no MS databases work on Linux even with Chillisoft ASP running. But from the linux server you could connect to a database on a separate windows server. Find below the link explaining this:

http://www.chilisoft.com/kb/articles/010716-08.asp

The overall implication is not good since it is not possible for someone on a windows 2000 server running ASP and ms sql 7 to be transferred to my server. Oh well.

Yes Chilisoft does support MS databases but it won't run them. E.G. If you have a MS SQLServer 7.0 on another machine then ASP will work with it. Likewise MS Access will work but you can't run MS Acess on a Unix box - There are other databases out there and MySQL works very well.

I knew it could support MS databases remotely but I was hoping it would support them on the actual RAQ ... that way I can easily "steal" windows 2000 hosting clients ...

if it is access database you might try to convert it into sql database.. but i don't have experience on this .. so i don't have anything to say.. :D

have you used the convert program before? What is the end result?

the biggest challenge would be converting a program that uses access to a program that uses MySQL. It might be very easy but I have not done it before! Anyone have any ideas?

You should be able to export the access tables as comma delimited text files and then import them into MySQL.

importing the data is not really the problem

the issue is making the asp program that once used Access to start using MySql!

And also for someone who is used to using Access learning to use MySql
