Hey guys, i'm thinking about getting one of these http://www.fastcolocation.net servers with capped 10 megabit for $250. Are these guys for real? is this bandwidth really oversold and slow or are they really allowing people to hookup real 10 megabit servers with them this cheap??

They are hosted with he.net and are resellers I guess, they buy the bandwidth for $200 per 10 megabit from he.net and resell it for $250?

I'm interested in hooking up and doing 20-50 megabits, anyone had any experience doing this much bandwidth with them?

Is there tech support good bad?

Thanks for any comments you guys can give. :)

Cheers

Matt

Ok, Yeah it's a daily special. They run different specials all the time.

Also, I'm pretty sure they aren't resellers. They have their own hardware, and lease several cabinets from HE.

HE.net is selling for 20$ a meg with a 1 gig commitment now. I'm seeing quite a bit of Wiltel and MFN now in it though.

please note that deal is only good for one year contract. its $100 more on setup and $50 more each month if paid month to month.

Are those 10meg unmetered a true 10 meg one? or is it share with other machines?

Does anyone have a server hosted with them that has a file we can download to test the speed?

Does it sound like they are going to offer decent hosting or total crappy hosting? with over used slow bandwidth?

Btw, this is not advertising i'm paying $700 for 10 megabit averaged bandwidth at Choopa.com and they sell there prices at $500 per 10 megabit server capped, which is twice the price of these new guys. I didn't think those prices were possible and i'm looking at hosting movies that will pull 10-100 megabit in no time at all. I am just after some honest critisizim of this hosting company. I sent them an email yesterday asking for some of this info and haven't heard back from them yet (not a good sign).

he.net doesn't have over 300 peers as listed. They have 146 total peers. Also from what I know they offload most of their traffic to MFN(above.net) and now wiltel as well. They are selling $20 a mbps on a gige commit because they just upgraded their "backbone" to an oc48 which is a very good thing.

he.net has a very reliable and fast network with superb pings to the west coast and asia/pacific. becuz of their recent promotions after they expanded their fremont facility and upgraded their network its possible some resellers are able to offer low prices. never heard a bad thing about fastcolocation.net. i say u can give them a try or u can also contact Asia on this forum. he has some great deals as well.

I check with HE already, they have a promotion on the gige and 100mbps FE. All other things are pretty much the same. $70 a meg for average bandwidth is not bad at all. However, if you asked for a quote for a custom mbps, say 20, you'll find that the price per meg is more than 25$.

exactly. i think fastcolocation is a pretty large reseller of he and they mite purchase bandwidth at a much higher committment. its very possible that they buy 100mbps or even gige connections and split them into 10mbps connections for the customers. with maybe a little bit overselling (or maybe not) of course they can make a profit.

They are hosted with he.net and are resellers I guess, they buy the bandwidth for $200 per 10 megabit from he.net and resell it for $250?

this is simply not practical. he.net resellers do not work that way. they will not only buy 10m and resell 10m. they buy at a much higher committment and the cost will drop significantly.

Do you consider HE as Tier 1 / 2 provider?

I have one of those 10mbit fastcolocation.net servers and the speed is great.
Got mine when they had a daily special and sold it for $150 a month so I'm pretty pleased :)
Done speedtests to and from it and have maxed the 10mbit when tried.

Everybody is looking for cheap bandwidth nowadays. I'd rather get a lot of support with pricey bandwidth rather than get a headache from unanswered emails to save $100 per month or so.

has anyone been able to get an answer from these guys the last week or so?
Is this a one-man show?
If not, then why isnt anyone responding to mails/PM's etc.?

As explained in another post, I was out of town for 10 days from the 1st to the 10th, I primarly answer sales questions and billing, however we always have tech support on staff answering our helpdesk and because our servers etc are at HE, the NOC is always staffed 24x7 for colo / ded customers to call.

We cleaned out all emails from while we were gone, if your email wasnt answered, please re-email us at info@fastcolocation.net and we can get your questions answered promptly
