Guys,

Would it be safe to grab a raq at rackshack and resell space to clients?

Overall, is rackshack a good host?

THanks

I had used a Raq3 a few years ago and I never had any problems. The new Raq4’s with 512mb of ram should be fine as long as you don’t host a lot of BBS’s systems. If you think you will have a fair amount of static sites as many site are, you will have no problems with 75-150 sites.

Opinions very on using the RAQ for hosting, but the best way is to take the plunge and try it. I think you will be fine; it’s a good place to start.

There is nothing wrong with reselling space on a Cobalt RaQ. Bear in mind however that you will have to do all the billing and client management yourself. As such, you may be better off by signing up with a provider such as www.coolreseller.com if you do not feel confident with doing things like billing yourself.

RaQ's are great servers BTW, as long as you don't try to run too many CGI scripts and databases. ;)

A RAQ has all the power of a flat battery. I wouldn't consider starting any hosting venture with one to be honest.

Your post with regards to the qualifications fo a Raq is, quite frankly, inaccurate and misleading.

Long before EV1 launched Rackshack, we hosted virtual sites on Cobalt Raqs. Today, we host over 10000 virtual sites on Cobalt Raqs in addition to the hundreds of dedicated servers that we host.

We typicall put 200 virtual sites on a Raq 4i with 512 MB Ram and experience very few problems with them.

While other solutions may have more power for lots of asp, cgi, etc, the Cobalt is an excellent platform for virtual hosting.

How many traffic are clients doing, if you give them of about 100 MB space and 5 gb free traffic?

I have no idea, but I think that most sites will keep under 1 GB?
