The graphics are different, the spacing is different, the saturation is different, the font is different, the words are different, the source is different, no box highlighting on mouseover.

This navbar is a legit job.

Could've been inspired by your site, but hey, if one looks hard enough among the millions of web sites they can probably find a nav bar that predates yours and looks a lot like it.

If the RFWS people were inspired by your site, more credit to them for taking the time to do it from scratch instead of copy-paste.

I dont care, really. I didn't said its copied ...but inspired. But then again the entire design on the top is inspired. Logo style, colors, buttons ...oh well ;)

There might be millions of designs out there that are similar to ours (which i doubt); but certainly not in the hosting industry.

I feel that i must defend myself....

Having looked at the two sites next to each other i will admit that they do look similar, but then that is a very popular style.

if you look at my NT site, http://bl.st you will see that i have the same 'style' bar at the top. Is that a copy also?

Appologies if you feel that bad about my site design being ripped from yours. But it wasn't intended to be a copy.

As i said, i don't really care and its nice to see that other people like it ...but i've seen the http://bl.st design on another hosts' website too - or at least something very similar. I will post here when i find it :)

Maybe I've missed something, but why post the thread then. The original post sounds like an accusation to me, and maybe even rightly so (to a point). Your own site is a professional, clean design though not overly brilliant in a technical sense. Perfectly built for a hosting company where 'bells and whistles' don't improve load time or appeal to a wide audience.

If the second site was 'inspired' to use your own words, from your own, it could quite easily have been inspired from many others.

I probably wouldn't have posted to this thread but your last comment of tracking down sites that 'look like' the NT site seems like you have a little too much time on your hands. There's been enough of this catty in-fighting around here lately without this sort of thing as well I think.

Our own site was 'inspired' by the hotmail inbox actually (you might remember a similar color scheme a few years back now). We also get requests all the time from people asking for a design "that looks like this site" and give a URL to site X. Unless both the sites you mention aboce were placed next to each other (as you did) I doubt anyone beside yourself would feel there was any connection between the two.

Not really, but i like surfing on the competitions' websites ;) :D I don't care if someone gets inspired by another company's design ...but its just sad to see people not coming up with their own designs anymore.

well that at least is something we can both agree on! :) While it's tempting to knock off a quick idea based on someone else's site when you're sitting there with a black page in front of you, it removes a lot of the fun from designing. I suppose that's the difference between those who actually enjoy it, and those who just do it to pay the bills. To be fair though, coming up with a trully original, never been done before, first in the world design is a hard call for anyone. We all learn from others, and pick up a trick here and there. Having a print out of someone else's site sitting next to you and copying it as you go might be a little too far though :D

At least it's not a case of File > Save As. I've had a few of those myself lately...

I have to say that this feels a bit like a personal attack on me.

Just to sort things out:

The design on the NT site came from a freeware disc that i got from a magazine. (Not a carbon copy but the general idea)
This design was also used on my dedicated server site (bededicated.co.uk) until i had to shut the site down becuase i could not cope with the workload.

If other sites use the design, then thats not a problem. They probably got the disc also.

The 'inspiration' for rfws came from the nt site. Not from yours kiwi.

Yes they look alike.

I don't know why you decided to put this post up. it feels more like a bitch at me, than a comment on site design. If you wanted to say something you should have PM'd me or emailed me.

But you have to agree that on the first look it really looks like it is inspired by our design if you look at the logo style, buttons, colors and the thin black line below the navigation. Don't take it too personally. Hope you have a good day ;)

Yes. I think you have already said that. I'm pretty sure that i've replied as well.

Probably some 14 year old.

Send him an email saying you'll are considering a legal action, and he'll probably remove the entire web site until a new 'design' will be finished :)

Probably some 14 year old.

FindSP.com.
Who are you directing that at?

If it is me then for you information, not that it is actually any of your business, i am actually 21. I have a degree in computer science and have worked in the IT industry for three years.

Probably not as long as some others, but still a fair way away from being 'some 14 year old'.

Where does that kind of statement come from?

How can you justify it?

Telling somebody to start legal action over something like this is just crass stupidity and bully boy tactics. It doesn't and wouldn't work.

If you were instructing Kiwi to start legal action against me then on what grounds and why?
We don't compete for the same knd of clients. Mchost sells reseller plans, which i don't. So why would he bother? Especially as he has already said, he isn't really that bothered.

Posting replies like that doesn't help anybody.

I looked at the sites. Logo is done in a similar fashion, so are thousands of others. There is no copy there. Navigation bar is similar, but not exact. Same could be said for millions of other sites. Again, not enough to win a case over. Pointless, thread closed.
