Hello, i'm new here. I really don't want to annoy you by posting probably "stupid" questions to your eyes. But everybody has to start somewhere..
so, my question is, what does bandwidth mean? i heard it is linked with the number of clicks you get, if so,

the amount of transfer from your server to visitors.

Basically

Everytime somebody comes to your webpage..
If your page is 10k in size, and you get 1000(thousand) people to visit your site.
1000 x 10 = the bandwidth you have used.

i think i understand, but then, what happens when you exeed the bandwidth?

you pay an extra fee.
All hosts have it so that, if you exceen your alotted bandwidth, they charge you a certain amount per gig.

Usually 4-10$ per Additional Gigabyte:D

That's the incorrect "host's version" of the word, just so you know. That should be:

bandwidth
a data transmission rate; The maximum amount of data that can be passed along a communications channel in a given period of time (bits/second).

The best analogy I've ever been able to come up with is, well... think of a garden hose and a fire hose. Now picture measuring the water (the data) being pumped through both as fast as possible.


When you see 'bandwidth' on a hosts site on the features pages however, they generally ain't talking about this. They are listing the amount of data which can be trasfered, not the bandwidth (often measured as Mbps).

Of course it also means that :D A useful measurement in determining if all the band members will fit into the band's Gremlin to get to a gig.

Usally a host will measure how much bandwidth (measured in bytes) you have used per month. This is only used to keep costs low and prevent over usage. Here is a site that will automaticly convert your bytes to kilobytes and so on.

Make sure you don't go over your bandwith limit. They charge you an arm and a leg sometimes.
