Just wondering what you think a resonable price would be for this package...

Dedicated DS-3 Connection
Windows 2000 Server
1500gb Transfer
1000mhz CPU
dual 20gb hard drives
1gb ram

Any idea? Im having trouble pricing it.

Windows 2000 Server - monthly cost around $300 / month.
1500gb Transfer - x $1.5 = $2250

so total must be around $2500/- if you get less then this i think service may be crap.

a server as specified: around $250 - $350, even a longer contract term (6 - 12 months) could be okay for people. what kind of a hd? raid controller? w/W2k licence? be a little more specific

for the bandwidth, is it a dedicated DS3? i don't think you can charge $2,250 on a single leased line without any redundancy - i would never advise anybody to have a NOC/server connected just through one provider. if you're connecting the server with a LAN and just cap the bandwidth at DS3-level on a redundant network, it would be okay to charge around $2,000 - $3,000, depending on the chosen backbone providers.

what kind of a SLA are you offering? Is it included? check rackspace for their pricing if you think you might take it up with their technical support guys.

I checked rackspace... Their price is around 7k/mo for the same type of deal.

And yes, its going to be capped to 100+mbs (DS-3 Speed) on an OC3 fiber network. (multiple providers/redundant connectivity)

Raid Controllers, dual 20gb ide(unfortunately, not scsi).


I would think 3 or 4k per month would be a decent deal.. Take note that this will include adult hosting.

Don't compare the total offer with rackspace. They have very good response times, a reliable and redundant network and the set up or upgrade of machines is done quite fast.

Check that again, or do you mean burstable bandwidth including DS-3 bandwidth? which will be more then 1500GB as you stated earlier...

I would NEVER use IDE on my server if I want to use bandwidth... try to use SCSI

be careful with adult hosting, or definately count on newbies or people upgrading their hd to SCSI

I agree with unabomber... 1,500 GB per month.. and using it for adult hosting... I would upgrade your hard drive to SCSI.

Its burstable DS-3, but the bandwith allowance is limited to 1500gb per month.

Think of it this way..

Think of it like your Water bill you can turn the
faucet half way or full blast but you only pay for what you use.

SCSI IS a good idea.. Thank you much for your two cents. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
