View Full Version : Code Red III
allera 08-13-2001, 11:56 AM Here we go with another strain:
http://www.zdnet.com/zdnn/stories/news/0,4586,2803473,00.html
It is not very detailed, but it claims that there is a third strain that leaves an even wider backdoor. We'll see what happens with this one...
blofish 08-13-2001, 01:02 PM Yeah its been heavily active for the last week already...
It's compromised thousands of boxes already
I watch my server-status on all the servers
the worm is pounding all the ip's on our boxes 24/7
trying to spread..
you see the default.ida?XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
constantly trying to hit ip's and it randomly generates ip's
and attacks that way.
It what we call a pretty 'nasty' worm
Only affects unpatched solaris and windows servers (forget the versions as i dont run MS OS's), patch is avaiable free if you run this servers at www.symantec.com
B-Broker 08-13-2001, 02:03 PM This is just sad...
Whoever's doing Code Red II and III (if they're all different) is simply put, a RETARD. Hhmm...let's COPY a pre-existing script and brag about it (they will soon enough) because we're too stupid to write one of our own.
What else is sad is that server admins (like at *****) are too incompetent (or stupid) to patch their servers.
How hard is it to d/l a patch, install it, and do a quick reboot? Seriously, come on, this is just sad.
Lawrence 08-14-2001, 05:45 AM I read in the paper this morning that Code Red III was a false alarm from someone in Korea. I don't remember the details, however, other than to say it was discovered to actually be Code Red II or something like that.

Well, first of all, if he/she made the virus, they are everything expect retards.
And i personally think it has a positive way, It make all big companies loose alot of money, and that's good cause when big companies get richer, some other peopel get poorer.
WildWayz 08-14-2001, 07:06 AM ... and what about the smaller companies who will lose money over it?

drhonk 08-14-2001, 12:03 PM I guess Microsoft's server admins are stupid too then.. hehe.. because few of their servers got hit by Code Red. Why I'm not surprise.. hehe.. :D:D:D

And I personally think you are mad - what about the little people who get hit when the big companies go down? Our two person company has been badly affected by this as all orders and support get cut off. <<EDIT>> .

huh? :erm:
The small companies have a smaller budget, smaller tech team and are the one's most effected by this type of thing. Also bear in mind that a lot of small businesses fuel the big businesses.
Lawrence 08-16-2001, 01:19 AM And also don't forget that a lot of small people invest in big businesses. I don't see how any company losing money from a computer virus is a good thing - because the money is not *spent*, it is *wasted*.
