View Full Version : Template troubles - PLEASE HELP!
WebNinja 08-29-2003, 01:46 PM I recently purchased a monster template. I'm having a few problems and I think someone on these forums could provide some help. Basically, I downloaded the template and opened up the HTML document, copy/pasted into Microsoft FrontPage and all saved it. None of the images are properly displaying, there all broken or plain box with an 'X'. In the HTML document all the images are named just how they are in the images folder. I'm sure it's possible for FrontPage to find each image on my computer and display them in FrontPage since there all named the same SO I don't have to manually insert them all. I know this may sound confusing but I tried to explain the best I could.

WebNinja 08-29-2003, 02:19 PM Anybody?
rockergrrl 08-29-2003, 03:07 PM EEK!
Don't use FrontPage!! Stay far far away!
Get yourself something like Dreamweaver -- FrontPage is nothing but trouble. Espeically for a professional website.
First things first though... Get Photoshop (if you don't already). Edit everything how you want using PhotoShop, and then do a Save for Web, and it will slice everything up and save it to disk.
Then use a FTP program to upload everything to your server (Do NOT use FrontPage).
If you'd like more help, give me a hollar...
Mrdredd 08-29-2003, 03:08 PM Dude... you have to move the graphic documents into the same dir that you saved the html in... and make sure its in the proper directory order as well... so if it was public_html/graphics/flash/flash.swf make sure its in that order where ever you saved it... you can tell from the source.
Informity 08-29-2003, 03:13 PM frontpage is actually quite a good editor. i dislike dreamweaver because it feels "bloated" to me.
What you need to do is open the .html file with frontpage, not copy/paste!
WebNinja 08-29-2003, 03:38 PM Please explain in further detail HOW I open the HTML file via FrontPage. Basically just give me complete instructions on how to open the file via FrontPage or move the the graphics to the HTML directory. Remember, I'm kind of new to this so I'll need complete instrustions

blue27 08-29-2003, 04:30 PM Open Front Page. Click on file/open site. Find the index.html or main html page of your template and open it.
WebNinja 08-29-2003, 04:43 PM Sir, this does not work. I've tried it many times. It could possiblely be due to the fact that I don't use the most recent version of FrontPage, I use FrontPage 2000.

Photoshop is a good start, however, it is not a code editor. Honestly, you should check out Dreamweaver. It is a great program, and many more people here (I'm sure) will be able to help you with it rather than FrontPage.
I have not used FP for awhile, but I will try to help you here:
Step 1: Put all of your images into one directory (ie. /images)
Step 2: Open your HTML file in Front Page
Step 3: Change all of the links for images to read "images/<imagename>
This should display everything for you.
Thanks
BoxedPixels 08-30-2003, 04:15 AM dreamweaver ... i dont like it very much .. use notepad :D

I use notepad as well - nice clean interface ;) I do like to use the code editor in Dreamweaver, just makes life easier sometimes.
4solutions 08-31-2003, 02:12 PM I feel your pain... I, too, purchased a template from Template Monster. They promised me a home page and a content page. Well the home page was okay, but the content page was only a psd... no html in sight. So I'm still trying to get the hang of slice and dice in Photoshop (mostly dice with me).
IMO there is no support at Template Monster... the monster ate all the humans and the templates apparently are self-propagating. Nope... no human support left there...
marcustr 08-31-2003, 02:39 PM By the sounds of it this guy doesn't know how to use notepad as a editor. You need to make sure that the pictures are linked right. If you are in frontpage open your html file goto the picture. Then right click and go to picture properties. Then go to general and see where it is calling the picture. If it isn't right then click browse and go to the picture and it should show up.
earthling 09-01-2003, 07:22 AM You should use www.templateswarehouse.com - they offer support and have the same temps 10% cheaper! I got one for like $40 and it took 3 hours to customize. Is only a small site but you can't beat it for the price --> www.creativemindstudio.com.
Frotax 09-03-2003, 09:36 AM Check this out. I found a link to this site, and it says it was made with Paint Shop Pro 7 and Photo Impact 6. (they are up to 8 now)I have PSP and have access to PI so is this for real?
I know Uleads Photo Impact info says it can be used for web design and Adobe Photoshop and Adobe products in general are out of my price range

leanweb 09-03-2003, 08:28 PM there is a free sample template with some instructions on how to use templates in general:
http://leanwebdesign.com/index/sample
hope this helps.
Frotax 09-05-2003, 05:34 AM glad you liked it.
LeanWeb I like a few templates you have but cant decide yet. Still have to narrow it down.
Question........Are the Buttons on the templates editable ie instead of a button saying Solutions, is it possible to change that to say Products, or Services or something?
How Editable are these with relative ease, other than the Normal Company Name, and filler areas?
Thanks

How Editable are these with relative ease, other than the Normal Company Name, and filler areas? yes, they are editable. you use Photoshop for that. fonts for writing menu text are always included in template package.
good luck!

Frotax 09-11-2003, 08:36 AM can I use Paint Shop Pro or Photo Impact to edit those or do I have to use Photoshop? I believe those read and save Photoshop formats.
leanweb 09-11-2003, 08:57 AM i never tried, and would doubt that, but you can download free sample off my site and try for yourself.
sorry i can't post direct link to that page as it makes local moderator mad. just go to my home page and follow link to free sample.
