Hi guys,
I need to know if cpanel will work with dialtone's owned linux which is based on redhat 6.2 ? I know they have their own Web GUI but I don't think it can do what other control panel such as ensim and cpanel can do. So anyone have any experience with this ?

C PANEL works just fine with Red Hat Linux release 6.2. no matter it is with dailtone or any other hosting company. We have C PANEL on many servers all running Red Hat Linux 6.2. So just go ahead with this

He was referring to DI Linux which is not just RedHat6.2 on the DI network but instead a rewrite of the RedHat OS to fit DI's own needs and thus its called DI Linux. I would be catious since they very well may have altered the OS so much that cpanel doesn't run . But since I have not used DI Linux I can not tell you if cpanel will or will not work. Maybe a quick email to DI can answer that for you.

hm..I hope it will work with either cpanel or ensim. Because their control panel is very limited and not build for virtual hosting business.
I'm running cpanel on DI and works perfect for me.
And my cpanel is installed on server wich have already few hundreds of users.

What about their default Web GUI .. did you have them uninstall their GUI ?..
What about ensim .. anyone with ensim on DI Linux server ?
Yes i remove their interface (before half year that interface was half-usable, every time when i add new domain https crashes down etc.)
It's enough just to remove /usr/local/serverinterface (that is from DI panel) and if you dont want to remoe anything you can just stop their daemons that commes with server and remove it from startup.
How ever apache mysql sendmail and etc must be removed so that layer1 of cpanel can be installed.
I think that layer1 remove that automaticly.

I guess it should be the same with ensim if you want to install ensim in their box then huh ?
ok.. thanks for your information.

if you have DI's 6.2 be careful as it has a 2.4 kernel - which ineffect makes it more like 7.1 - my understanding of ensim is that it only runs on a 'clean' red hat 6.2 which would rule out DI 6.2 - and DI's 6.1 - not sure about CPanel
Yes i remove their interface (before half year that interface was half-usable, every time when i add new domain https crashes down etc.)
I would imagine this is DI's 6.1 OS as the 6.2 hasn't been out so long but if DI watch this board they may be able to clarify

Thank you .. that was a very important information. The only thing I have to do now is to ask DI about their new OS. They claimed on their website that DI 6.2 is based on RedHat 6.2 where DI 6.1 is based on RedHat 6.1. I guess I'm going to have to call them to find out.
I'll give you guys some details after the call

Just got into a conference call with their sales and one of their sys admin. Here's what they have for OS, DI Linux 6.1 which is based on RedHat 6.1 and the new DI Linux 6.2 which is based on RedHat 6.2
According to their sys admin, I think his name was Roberto, he knows that both cpanel and ensim works on DI Linux 6.1 which is installed in all of their regular Linux servers. On the IBM servers, which came with DI Linux 6.2 by default, Ensim failed miserably. They haven't try cpanel with their DI Linux 6.2 yet.
According to Roberto, or whatever his name was, they altered a lot of libc from the original RedHat 6.2 and other stuff to make it more secure. Now he said that if cpanel is very dependent on those libc .. he's 100 percent sure it will fail.
The best way to do is probably requesting to have DI Linux 6.1 installed instead of DI Linux 6.2
I hope this will help everyone here.

interesting
we are talking with Ensim right now concerning serverXchange which does deploy webpplianceLH onto 6.1 only - but webpplianceLS (the stand alone unit) appears to only go on 6.2 - they even supply 6.2 with it if you have floppy access to the machine
here's what Ensims FAQ says:
What operating systems does WEBppliance LS support?
WEBppliance LS operates on any server running RedHat Linux 6.2
I think DI have got some reasons for there adaptation of 6.2 but I think it could put them out of the loop on lots of stuff because of the mix of kernel/base OS
We would prefer 'hardening' 7.1 with 2.4 or 6.2 with 2.2 kernel but I guess they know what they are doing - if there panel on 6.2 is good then maybe no one wants to use anything else
