This one is weird.

My provider is telling me that one of my clients is used 8gb bandwidth in 2 days. I contacted the client and he said that is imposible as his site is not that popular. he said it was a mistake somehow.

to be on safe side I purchased more bandwidth for the customer.

last night the client was put on hold for excesive bandwidth. I decided to do research and here is what i found.

another report of bandwidth claims that one of my clients pbnetwork.net is using 102mb bandwidth. However the client has not even uploaded 1 file to the server yet. so how can a blank site be getting that much bandwidth.

my personal site that i just uploaded 2 days ago and only 4 people know about the site claims to be getting 45mb bandwidth.

has anyone else heard of incorrect reporting with webhost managers " view bandwidth usage" report?

do hosting companies "fib" about bandwidth to get more money out of you?

i need some help.

WebHostManager reports only http bandwidth. FTP, mail, etc are not included, thus can be low compared to actual usage.

that doesn't seem to me to be any sort of an answer at all.

brad: i doubt i can help you, i've never actually heard of incorrect bandwidth reports/mistakes or hosts making unsupported claims about high bandwidth.

but even if no files have been uploaded.. e-mail counts towards bandwidth. are you taking that, and ftp transfers, into account?

however the same thing happening with 3 different acocunts does seem fishy to me.

WebHostManager does not take into account bandwidth for email and ftp (ProFTPd) so your web host may be right. it is time to contact experts.

well,

it turns out the reports are correct.

pbnetwork.net had nothing uploaded....except 300k pictures in the images directory that people were viewing.

so anyway, thanks for your info. I guess I better not question computers again. They seem to calculate better than me
