PWS web server problem
hey all,

all of a sudden 2 nights ago my pws quit servering to outside people. I was not in the progress of installing anything or changing settings. I can view my pages just fine but noone on the outside can get them to load.

last night I reformattted and reinstalled and still same problem.

anyone have a clue? did some of my hardware fail?or is it something with my cable provider?

I show your IP as: 65.33.9.120
Is this correct?

Make sure your web server is running. Look in the services control panel for more info. Also, try to connect to your web server via the browser and your domain name. If this does not work, then your web server may not be running.

What port is your server on? Maybe your ISP blocked traffic to port 80???

hey huck,

yeah I determined that if I use dialup then my server is going out to the world but on my cable it must be blocked.

Is there a way for me to change the port from 80? I do not have access to the name server- my domain name is just pointed to my ip.

Guess If I can't switch it then I will have to go to DSL or satelite DSL.

I do not use PWS. With apache or iis you can change your port. Then your web site address would have to include your port number, e.g. www.domain.com:port where port is the port number ... 8080 is common as well as some others.

You may check your Terms of Service to see if web servers are forbidden with your account -- if not inquire into how you can get yours unblocked.

recently a lot of cable internet providers (some of @home, and also I believe cox) have closed off external access to port 80 due to code red. I'd bet that's what the problem is especially since it's only started happening in the past couple of days and since it works on dial up. You may want to contact your provider to double check this.

yep that must be it. It was kinda weird how it blocked my friend in UK and me FL at nearly the same time.
Now both of us are unblocked -but if they do it again I found the way to work on another port.
