View Full Version : Small Website - 30MB. Hosting Questions

Hi,

I have 2 small websites - one about 10MB in size and another about 30MB in size. The first one receives about 100 visitors a month while the larger one receives about 3000 visitors a month.

I do not, at the minute, need and cgi-bin server or anything.

I would like a hosting company with no banners (maybe a small link button at the bottom of the page), FTP access from any intenet connection.

Can I get this cheaply or for free??

The larger site is non-commercial and doesn't make any money. The smaller one is for a small buisiness.

How do I make the information in the bottom left hand corner of the browser say what it says in the URL box?

Thanks

Russ

Hi there,

According to the needs you've stated, there are quite a number of free webhosts out there you could use. Might want to check out http://www.f2s.com or if you don't mind a popup behind, http://www.lunarpages.com(am using this host for 1 of my sites right now). I've personally used both and although the former is a little slow, it's still quite good. :)

On the other hand, if you're looking for paid hosting, state your needs in the advertising forum. After checking out the offers that you'll receive, pick a few favs and then return here to ask other users about their experiences with those hosts. :)

Good luck! :D

I would recommend www.valuablehost.com if you want low cost hosting. Support is friendly and they respond to you within 24 hours (they are very busy).

The only catch is that you are only allowed to pay a year in advance on most plans.

Hope this helps.

Freedom2Surf do not appear to be accepting new members - only those who sign up to SurfTime which you have to pay for and I have no need for this.

Can you recommend any UK based hosting companies.

Russ

You can try http://www.portland.co.uk/freewebhosting.esp for your smaller site, the webspace offered with that free host would not be suitable for your larger site however. Does it need to be a UK site though?

Since you've mentioned that the smaller site is for business use, an option would be to use the profits(if any) from the smaller site to fund hosting for the larger site.

I would still recommend Lunarpages.com if you don't mind a popup which appears behind a visitor's browser. They can provide you with what you need for both sites.

However, if you are looking for low cost paid hosting, do what I suggested in my first post.

Good luck again. :)

PS. You can also try to do an advanced search at http://freewebspace.net and then return here to ask for users comments :)
