View Full Version : customizing the CP (language): PLESK6 versus CPanel

I would like to customize the client's control panel and:
- offer the panel in English, German and Spanish
- remove some features from the client's panel

CPanel:
I have some experience with WHM / CPanel and to do this I would have to edit hundreds of files or buy a 3rd party skin with language options.

PLESK6:
Their homepage says: "Localized Language Selection… Now all users at every level have the option of selecting the Language (English, Spanish, German, and Russian) that they would like to view Plesk 6 in"

I tried the online demo and there are "options" to change the language, but the only language available is English. Is this only a limitation of the demo version or would I need to buy additional language modules?

Disabling some features seems to be simple by creating templates. Is it possible to remove further features from the client's panel like mailing lists, crontab, databases?

All in all - which CP do you think is easier to customize?

Thanks for your help!

PS: My question only concerns these 2 control panels.

Unfortuanately Plesk seems to have their own definition of what a skin is.

In Plesk 6 all you can do is really change the colors...big deal you can't move anything around or remove un necessary buttons or get rid of their 4 layter deep I frame.

We HATE this because they added new features that create extra buttons many of which we don't use....

You would think that plesk would dynamically create buttons based upon features...so plan to either offer all features and make sure they are enabled or expect a healthy amount of support tickets from cleints wondering why clicking a button doesn not give them a working function.

In short, pick Cpanel....it may be more work but at least you have the control.

Thanks for your reply, Ray!

I found an interesting CPanel skin which allows me to delete any feature I want to and also offers support for several languages: http://www.rvskin.com

Plesk is not the way to go for me ...

Thank you!

Also ... I should have checked this before myself ... additional languages for Plesk are $99 / language.

For the same amount, you can get rvskin including several languages and the option to change the CP features.
