I think I have a faulty hd but am not sure I am building my comp and when I turn it on is just frezes up at some stupid error. and if I unplug the hd and reboot the error is gone.. so what do you guys think... the error is something about verifying and then it stops and don't say nothing.

Look for a function in your BIOS where the HD's are autodetected, maybe your new HD isn't listed there

What do you mean if you unplug the hard drive and reboot? Are you unplugging the hard drive while the system is on?

Verifying DMI Pool Data and then it stops

Well I had this problem, I just fdisk'ed the MBR and it was good!

If you dont have any other paritions, you can just put in a boot disk and at the prompt a:> type

fdisk\mbr [enter] (slash might be the other way)

A few things may be wrong:

1) Bad/Faulty Hard Drive
2) Hardware conflict (unplug all devices and boot with just the hard drive)
3) Bad boot sector, try booting froma bootup and type fdisk/mbr

And he's a computer programmer? *sigh*. Just because the system recognizes the hard drive, doesn't mean it's good. You could have bad sectors.

MBR = master boot record

A friend of mine also had this problem,he apparantly tried to do something with partioning (Hope its spelled right) and it messed up his C drive.....

He gets BOOT DISK FAILURE when booting up,then he got to windows but not desktop,i dunno......

I had something wierd happen on mine the other day,the screen full of dots,froze up,then i re-started and BOOT DISK FAILURE,i just turned it off/on and THANK GOD it was fine......

I also wonder what VERIFYING DMI POOL DATA means
