(RAQ4) Okay this has come up a million times before and I've looked at quite a few posts but I can't work out what is going wrong. Sympton "Reason: relaying to <matthew@dps.uk.com> prohibited by administrator" but mail to matthew@www.dps.uk.com works ok! The DNS for this is held and managed on freeparking, along with another domain name (which works perfectly) - and I've double checked every setting and it's the same! The only thing I can see as a problem is on the "Control panel | Email parameters | Host/Domain Aliases" it won't allow me to add www.dps.uk.com or dps.uk.com - I put them in, hit save and then they go again? On the site settings I have the e-mail aliases as "dps.uk.com, www.dps.uk.com" - PLEASE can someone put me out of my misery!

I've already done that as I said in my post...

That would seem to work. Last ditch effort: delete and recreate the site. Sometimes it works when you have problems and you are sure nothing is wrong.

Stranger and stranger - got a junk mail today and deleted it as usual and then though to myself hold on how can I be getting junk mail... checked it out and now it all works??? I'm pleased but still confused - not changed anything btw!

Didn't you know that the RaQs are classified as the 8th great mystery of the world? I've had MySQL errors like that. Nothing works and then poof it all works fine and no problems. Go figure.

No I'm still confused - Seems strange that I've not had a couple of e-mails today so been doing some further checking. If I use Hotmail to send and e-mail to me it fails but my local ISP I use is okay??? I thought that maybe this was to do with the new IP address not moving all the way through the net yet - but when I tried sending a email to another address setup in this way it failed too??? e.g. From my ISP I can send mail to crap@tapewise.com and it works fine but from hotmail it fails which is the same problem I'm having (btw tapewise domain was setup 4months ago so it's not to do with domain name propergation). Your sugestions are welcome!!

As a side note - I still can't add "DPS.uk.com" or "www.dps.uk.com" to the "Control Panel | E-mail server parameters | Host Domain / Aliases" why should it keep removing them when I enter them?

Had the same problem a couple of days ago with 3 of my vsites.

I just went into the control panel and resave the email server alias and it works wonderfully. My guess is that the file /etc/httpd/email/virtusertable was a bit corrupted.

or Pop_before_smtp module was a bit flaky. Sometime it would just start denying relays.

Go figure!

If I send email from user@domain.com to user2@domain.com the mail goes out fine but it never arrives! Does anyone know the reason?

But if I send from user@domain.com to user2@www.mydomain.com i arrives ok, is this the way the email works on a Raq or am I doing something wrong?

And if I send email from me@mydomain.com to me@mydomain.com it says that the user does not exist when in fact it does!!!

Have you added MyDomain.Com to the email server alias for that website. E.G. Manage Site, Site Settings, Email Server Aliases add "MyDomain.com, www.mydomain.com"

OK don't geta hard on! You never stated what you've done/tried so we gotta start from the begining. You setup a MX record for yourdomain.com -> www.domain.com ?

domain.com has an IP of xyz.321.xxx.123
mail for domain.com is delivered to domain.com with a preference of 5
www has an IP of xyz.321.xxx.123
mail for www is delivered to domain.com with a preference of 5
Non-matching DNS requests forwarded to xyz.321.xxx.123

It only happens if I use my server as the SMTP and currently I have it set-up for POP before SMTP, does this have anything to do with it!

And if I POP before SMTP then send mail to;
me@domain.com (it will disapear)
me@www.domain.com (it will arrive fine)
me (it also arrives fine!!)
