Hello,
I was the one that started the whole *****/Code Red thread. It detailed my exasperation with *****. To make a really long story short, this has not been my week for domain hosting. My new hosting company, HOSTING MATTERS, rocks. The issue has been with ***** and Network Soultions.
I decided to transfer my domain names to Go Daddy from NetSol. GoDaddy has another domain name for me and I received many great reviews of them.
I followed their process for two of my domains. We'll call them domain a and domain b :-)
Domain a went through fine and I received a letter from GoDaddy to click on a link to approve. When I clicked on the link I was told to come back after 5pm MT as they were having system issues. No problem. I went back later that day and it worked.
24 hours later I still hadn't seen an email on domain B. I sent a note to customer support for GoDaddy and they responded very quickly. Yes, the order was there, but they were holding it for the following reason:
Go Daddy has become aware of an individual who has found a way to circumvent our transfer process in order to try and transfer domains to Go Daddy that do not belong to him. In order to stop this we have had to shut down our transfer page while we investigate the problem. Copyright original author.
Of course this panics me :-) I have had so much trouble moving the domains from one hosting company to another, all I need is this issue.
I write back asking if I am at risk and the response I get in a very timely manner is:
I was afraid this information might panic you. Your domains are in no danger of being transferred to someone else. This measure was simply to prevent any more being transferred in. We are investigating the problem and will soon have it fixed. Copyright original author.
So, I know the domain a request went through because I did get an email from Net Sol. The second one hasn't been processed yet as they are attempting to fix this issue.
Talk about your can of worms :-) What recourse would someone have if this happened? Pretty much none. My domain names aren't commercial ventures by any means, but they have come to mean a great deal to me as they are my online identity.
A few comments. The customer support person from GoDaddy who helped me was Laurie. He entire responses were professional and timely. I was super impressed with the timeliness of responses from GoDaddy.
One final note: There is no message concerning this on Go Daddy's website, that I could find, and they are still accepting domain transfers:
