View Full Version : can't login to cpanel (user)
Al Nany 08-25-2003, 07:15 PM The server is a new box with rackshack. I requested for additional IPs with them. They told me that they'll have to move my server to a new IP because they've ran out of IPs on my subnet. So, my server was moved and my main IP was changed.
Now, I failed to changed my IP to the new one when I copied all the accounts over from my old server. At first, none of the name based sites worked because it was still trying to resolve to the old IP. This problem was solved when I reassigned IP for each name based domain through WHM. I'm thinking it is the same problem that causes me unable to login to cpanel? But it is strange because FTP login still works and webmail login works as well. Is there a file I can manually edit to fix this problem? Sites with its own dedicated IP address works, and sites renew created on the server work as well... please advise.
netacore 08-25-2003, 10:42 PM Does http://yournewip:2082 work?
sprintserve 08-25-2003, 11:09 PM what error do you get when you try to login to Cpanel?
Al Nany 08-25-2003, 11:10 PM It doesn't... So it's not the IP, rather the logins themself...?
Al Nany 08-25-2003, 11:13 PM actually, ftp doesn't work either.... and some sites seem to work still, so far the pattern i see is that really small sites work... damn this is driving me crazy...
sprintserve 08-25-2003, 11:16 PM I want to help, but I can't if you don't provide more information on the actual error messages, and such. Also when did you do the move of ips. It could simply be a case where it hasn't propagated to all the ISP and you just have to wait. But since you say IPs directly doesn't work, it's likely to be something else.
Al Nany 08-25-2003, 11:25 PM Thank you.
There are no error messages really. WHen I try to login, it'll act as if my login was bad and ask again. After 4 tries, I'm taken to that white screen with black text: Access Denied.
It's been a while since the sites moved, I don't think it's because it has not propagated. Also, even if that's the case, the cpanel log should still work because my sites are still on the old server as well. Also, when I ping my sites I get the new IP.
It's strange because "some" of the sites work, yet most don't. I tried removing a site and it still didn't work. BUt creating a new siet in the new server is okay. I just don't know what to do.
sprintserve 08-25-2003, 11:29 PM Have you tried resetting the password on the sites that didn't work and see if that solves the problem?
Al Nany 08-25-2003, 11:32 PM That was the first thing I tried. Doesn't work. I even tried removing the site, no luck.
sprintserve 08-25-2003, 11:35 PM So you are saying removing and recreating the site didn't work? Did you change the main shared ip in the configuration to the new ip?
Al Nany 08-25-2003, 11:40 PM No, recreating the site would work. I tried moving the site from the old server and THAT didn't work. There are over 100 domains on this server, I really don't want to delete and recreate each one unless I really have to.
sprintserve 08-25-2003, 11:47 PM So what happened was that there was a change of physical servers as well and just not an ip switch? Did you check one of the DNS zones and see if it is showing the new ip?
Al Nany 08-25-2003, 11:53 PM Yes, the DNS zone shows the new IP. Keep in mind that these sites are online and pinging them shows they have the correct IP.
sprintserve 08-25-2003, 11:59 PM Perhaps then there's something wrong either with the installation of the cpanel or something. I had move hundreds/thousands of domains from servers to servers and it never ever had this kind of issue. I am not so sure what it is yet at this time and can't advice more without exploring it in greater detail. There's a limit to what remote advice can be given. Why not open a support ticket with Cpanel and let them solve the issue.
netacore 08-26-2003, 12:15 AM Is /var/cpanel/users empty?
How did you transfer the accounts, manually or via WHM transfer?
Al Nany 08-26-2003, 12:23 AM ARG, I just tried opening a ticket with cpanel.net and it said my IP does not have a valid license? Man... I'm about FED UP with rackshack's screw ups. They pay NO ATTENTION to details.
If someone can help me with this I'm willing to pay for support. Please PM me, thanks.

No it's not, all the users are there.
The accounts were transfered with the transfer function in WHM.
eddie 08-26-2003, 01:55 AM from your last commnent it seems that the new server does not have a valid cpanel license, hence why you cannot access cpanel.
you should call rackshack and make sure they give you a valid cpanel license
Al Nany 08-26-2003, 01:58 AM I do, rackshack said I have to enable the license port...
sprintserve 08-26-2003, 01:58 AM If the new server does not have a valid license, you cannot login to WHM even, and you would not be able to log in to all the domains, and not just a few.
Al Nany 08-26-2003, 04:50 AM I'm willing to pay for someone to resolve this for me. Please email me your rates if you can help, thanks.
