any opinions from anybody that has had accounts with both of this companies.

Whos better,
Whats better,

why,

ive looked thorugh the forums, and havent seen any comparisons, or a great deal of info about them.
Donhost has unlimited web storage, some of the websites i want to put up are very big 400mb (1 site). So what are there limits.

i'll mainly use the hosting for my own personal websites, and i do a bit of freelance web deisgn so a few sites for customers will need hosting as well.

Thanks

I've never hosted on vibus but have never heard a bad word on them.

I have hosted with donhost. I think they are one of the most mentioned hosts on this board. Normally not for their shinning service or support.

I would not recomend them. Go with others.

Try searching again for donhost on the search link. When i did it i got four pages of results.

Happy searching:D

Any host out there is better than Donhost ...so i suggest you go with Vibus or do a search on the forums.

We have never used Donhost (and with all the bad press, would never use them) but we have had 2 dedicated server with Vibus for the past 4 months and have been very happy. Good up-time and very good support.

Kiwi...my personal opinion of Donhost aside, that there is such an exceptionally poor reflection on your own level of professionalism.

I accept that some people have had problems with Donhost...as have most people had problems with any given provider at some time or another...but I'd suggest you put someone else in charge of representing your company in a public forum of your own industry peers.

Editor: TheEgo has asked for opinions on Donhost and my personal opinion of Donhost is that 90% of the people going with Donhost are leaving after 1-2 months, coming back to WHT and looking for a new provider.

I agree with KIWI....
Most people that go with Donhost do eventually look for somehting better.

not really a downsid on their servers, good uptime etc.. for us however there unprofessionalism and lack of support is not worth the fight.

Kiwi, unless you're privy to the signup and retention rates of any host, what can you possibly base any assumption on? And worse, come up with comments like the one you did above. You can't defend that comment in this type of forum with what is your personal opinion. It reeks of unprofessionalism.

I personally know more successful resellers on Donhost than the number of detailed explanations of issues that have been provided here.

Editor:

I did ask for peoples personal opinions and experince, alot of people do complain about DONHOST but the majority have never used them, they hear one person complain and jump on the bandwagon.

But there also other people here when i searched through the forums who recommend them.

Don't forget happy people don't usually go around shouting and screaming how good something is,
An unhappy customer always screams and moans and complains and make themselves heard, basically 'cause there pissed off.

kiwi
i think editor is concerned that your slagging off another hosting company (rightly so or not). When you yourself are a competitor.

Anyway, i have heard good and bad from people about donhost on other topics, although alot is still opinions rather than personal experience

THANKS

I think you can only comment on a service if you have hands on experience. ie. you have used it.
Granted there has been some bad experiences with donhost but also some good ones.

People who have had bad experiences seem to shine more than those with good ones.
Shame really.

Regards

Craig

i totally agree, people who are perfectly happy with what they have got are hardly going to be searching through forums like this one to find a decent host.
It's "usually" the unhappy people that are in the forums looking and talking about hosts.

p.s.
i not calling you lot unhappy and miserable people ;)

Well thats the same :D All you need for the script to run is perl5 and sendmail - which DonHost or Vibus should have.

I know at Vibus is easy and had no problem but try to set the same script @ donhost you have no chance.

If you are going to use cgi or mysql then my advice don't go near donhost.

On a purely technical and TOS note, Donhost do not allow you to use any mailing list on their system.

If you want a mailing list Donhost are not therefore the answer.

To clarify for those who have viewed the marketing spiel re: "unlimited mailing lists"... Note that these lists a rerefer to email addresses hosted under the domain you want the list under only!

In other words you can only create a list with
fred@mydomain.com
lucy@mydomain.com
whoever@mydomain.com

but not
fred@hotmail.com
... or any other domain external to your site.

Check the TOS for confirmation.

Yes I know that but I still need a script to send email to mmm@mydomain.com.

try... http://mojo.skazat.com/

I'm not sure if it's still a current project but I tried it for a while until I adapted DBmanager to do what I needed.

Hope that helps
