i have a client i setup as a reseller so he could have private dns servers. His domain is (dot.com, fake name used to protect :-) so i edited his names servers under edit reseller, and put in ns.dot.com and ns2.dot.com
I then went into his dns record for dot.com and added
ns A 209.123.xxx.xxx
ns2 A 209.123.xxx.xxx
both ips are not in use. I can now ping the ips using ns.dot.com and it works fine, however i set his own domain name to use those dns servers 2 days ago and now the name will no longer resolve, please help i need to get this fixed ASAP.
thanks.

are those nameservers registered?
do you do a nslookup for the domain and both nameservers?
it work?
how about in a shell in your server? it work too?

1. are these name server registered with his domain registrar ?
2. Also you need to edit DNS zone file for resellers domain (dot.com).
The best way is to delete the domain and recreat it if you get confused.
best of luck

I have honestly though it was just supposed to mirror my dns servers? I was told that this was just setting up virtual dns servers?

I was wondering if anyone could post the steps to do this. I have been wondering how exactly to do this. I have look around the net, but haven't seen any instructions to do this.
Thanks,

From what you posted, you seem to have merely set up subdomains for the domain. I dunno how the WHM handles this exactly, so I'm just going to move it to tech. forum...

Here is what you need to do:
1) Reserve two IPs in your WHM so that they won't be used for other accounts.
2) Setup the domain on your box initially using your ns.
3) Add A records in your DNS entry for that domain for ns1. and ns2 (or whatever you name them). Of course, use the two IPs you reserved.
4) The owner of the domain (I assume your client) must register those ns with his registrar for the domain. It is a good idea to register it with both NSI and with his registrar.
5) After the ns have been registered and all has propagated, you can change his domain to use his ns for both NS records and SOA.
6) Edit his reseller login in WHM to use his ns as default.
I have seen several different ways to do this, but this is how we do it and I've never had a problem. Hope this helps!

Actually, you do not need to reserve those IP addresses. They can be used for other accounts.

That is true, they can. However, as a reseller, I would not want my ns IPs coming up for some other company...
As I stated, there are several ways to do it. This is how we do it. :-)

So use 2 IPs that your company uses.
