Can someone do me a favor, view our site and let me know how fast it is loading. I cant go from what we get because our connection is higher than most. Whats the average load time for the homepage and maybe one more page? I was hoping to find out to see if we need to try an crunch the graphic down more. Thanks for the input.

Umm the hosting link and the order form after you agree to the terms loads kinda slow and I have a fast connection. All of the other pages load pretty quick though. Nice site btw I like the new look.

Thanks for the compliments, those are the two largest pages we have. Lots of code and tables

Loads fine for me and with the following tech stats you'll have to agree I'm far from a 'fast' connection

Computer: Armada Laptop 1500c PII 366mhz
Modem: Xircom 56k Global Access 'card'

Current connection to ISP: 36000bps
ISP to world: a hellofalot slower than 36k

Location: Australia (eastern coast)

One thing. The Jaguar PC header graphic. From what I can see of it, you reuse it from different locations (ie. same graphic, different folders?) Have you considered just linking it all back to one single central graphic. As it's a biggest graphic I saw at 14k that might increase load time without needing to crunch more. If it's in a different folder often it's considered a different graphic regardless of file name.

The header only exists in one place we sont have it in different folders and its not even close to 14k . It 6k total. Its made of three graphics one 1k, one 2k, and one 3k image file. Im not sure where you get 14k and where you are seeing it from different dirs, theres only one.
Also the header is the same for every page iin the site, theres just one header file

I'm starting to feel like I'm the only one who had the hosting link load slow. I thinks it's all of those features that you offer :D

Yeah sorry about that. It must have dropped out of cache locally here as when I looked again after posting I didn't have the same problem *my apologies* As for the 14k, that was rightclick > properties, so may have been local again (rendering). I think people are only finding the hosting page slow as it loads as one hit (for me anyway), instead of page>text>images like the rest of the pages I looked at - the old 'illusion' of fast loading.

As I said it loads just fine for me, and the content is rich for the load time given. To put it in perspective, I've seen many big operations with much slower load times, that have been very disappointing once it finally appears.

Your home page loaded entirely in about one and a half seconds, and the secondary pages I tried loaded in under a second.

My connection speed is about 500kbps, DSL line. West Coast, USA.

Thanks you everyone for giving it the ole tryout. I appreciate it greatly, its good to know we have a good loading site so folks dont get bored while waiting decades. Thanks for all your inputs.

On a 33.6 dialup the home page was 19 seconds and the hosting was 20 seconds. Very nice! Obviously, this is a slow connection, these times are better then typical and that's what counts. I like your look!

Am I the only one that picked up on what this guy just did?

Maybe you guys could check my "load" too (perhaps you would like to buy my services while you there, wink, wink).

ebidder, I resent that remark.
This was a genuine post. We just rebuilt the
entire site and have befriended some folks here.
So we asked for a test and got it. If I could remove
this post now I would. We meant no harm by this and
we are aware there is an advertising forum if thats
what we were going for.

Nice site Jag, 2 seconds via cable modem....no typos now either ;)

Ebidder - I haven't been on this forum long either, but long enough to know that you really shouldn't go accusing "old hands" like Jag of trying for advertising they don't need. Especially with only your 2nd post. Whoops.

*lol* I'm with you on that one. Besides I think if Jaguar was going to start psuedo spamming to get a bit of free advertising in, he'd be in the wrong place considering the people here not only HAVE their own domains already but also host others. I suppose it may have been aimed at the new people, but Jag's been here *presumably* a lot longer than me, and even I know such advertising isn't a good idea as the resulting pounding by other members isn't going to be good for the reputation.

The one thing that sets this forum head and shoulders above any other I've been too is the sense of community here and the fact people here help each other out regardless of 'commercial' value. If someone asks other to look at their site for load time etc I think you'll find it's due to actually, well, umm..., wanting to see about their load time *lol*. I think you'll find few people here that openly spam as if they've looked through the posts they'll see the resuly of it..

... at the very least they'll get BC coughing all over them *lol* - gotta give up those smokes mate *grin*

My apologies to the original 'poster'.

That said, after seven years in the business and a long time member (and moderator) of countless other forums, I will not tape my fingers together just because this is my first or second post on this particular board. It was one persons opinion. That's all.

OK, now I really feel like a @#$%! (idiot).

After spending more time here I have realized that this is primarily a forum of hosting companies.

I deepest apologies to Jaguar (I think that's who posted the original).

I am a general user and thought you were "cleverly" soliciting business.

Fortunately, I always wear mint flavored shoes on Sunday.

Greg,

Who says I smoke?! ROFLMAO

I can't stand smoking... Anyone near me in a restaurant smoking is treated to my little act :

I hold a paper bag to my mouth and make retching noises, then approach them. The vast majority of the time, the smoker will desist and stub out the cig.

If not, then I really make some loud noises and attract the attention of others. That definitely makes them stop. ;)

Thank God for restaurant legislation prohibiting public smoking from all restaurants from next year here in Victoria.... :D

Meanwhile..... Back at the ranch....

<--Is a reformed smoker. My favourite thing in a restaurant is that "flapping like an epilleptic seal on speed" thing that people do. I was never sure whether to put my cigarette out or throw them a fish...

Jaguar,
Nice change your old page looked a bit dull... :) I would re name your search script "perlfect" to something else and your Java Script "No Source Viewing Allowed" isn't very helpful as most people can avoid that. Your site loads quick from my Laptop and V90, Well done and keep up the good work. How's your projects going?

Jag
09-11-2000, 11:26 AM
Thanks, that no source viewing was supposed to gone already. Thanks for the tips, things are moving along but I wish a little faster. As long as our long term goals are met I will be happy.

Gawd - you're one of them huh? *grin* Nuthin better than firing up a smoke after a good meal. :) 18 inches of hair, head to toe black, and more silver jewellery the Mr T has gold is a pretty good way to get rid of you non-smokers *chuckle*

Oh that and my uber-goth nasty stare of derision

But I still like ya :)
