View Full Version : storage limit suspension

my host uses whm/cpanel.

I just found if any of your client exceeds the storage limit, their a/c wouldn't be suspended unless you do that for yourself.

the storage quota set in the hosting plan in whm is just an guideline/indication for you to monitor.

Ares there ways to overcome this. What if you have more than a hundred clients? You have to monitor their disk usage day by day?

Thanks

that's expected and desirable.

I just want the a/c will stop automatically whenever the usage exceed the limit, like the bandwidth.

Why would you want to disable their account when they reach their storage limit? They can't upload any more.

correction

I shouldn't say disable their a/c.

what i mean is to stop them from adding data or email instead.

On all the cPanel servers here, the user is unable to upload more content if their quota limit is reached automatically. It doesn't suspend the site or cut anything off but FTP kicks back an 'out of space' error if they try to upload more (plus things like incoming email may be affected).

However my experience is a client exceeded his storage limit by 30 mb because he got tons of email on one single day.

Does it mean the limit didn't control flow of incoming email but only data from FTP?

On the setup here, if their quota limit is reached I don't think new email is delivered to them because the system can't write to the inbox file in their directory.

It happened to me.

One customer with 200mb limit got a usage of 240mb when I checked the whm one day.

What's the trick in the setting please?

I'm not sure what you're trying to acheive. The idea of the quota system is that they cannot add files (eg FTP) or add to files (eg mailbox inbox files) if they have already reached their limit.

Sorry about butting in. What I'd like to achieve is to be able to have a choice; that is, for long-time customers, who I know will pay for the overuse later, let them go ahead and I only want to get a notification so that I can notify them, too. For new customers, I'm happy with the current arrangement. For example in the case of going over the bandwidth limit I wouldn't like to have long-time customers' sites disabled - that would be drastic.
